Title: KLS in Borders Holiday Commercial
Post by: MsCriseyde on December 09, 2004, 06:12:07 PM
Blink and you'll miss her. I saw this on television earlier today and wasn't sure it was KLS until I found the commercial on the web. The commercial features a montage of scenes with people quoting from movies, books, and songs to demonstrate how they create a universal language. KLS doesn't actually speak, but the camera is on her face for a couple of seconds. You can view the Borders holiday commercial online here (http://www.bordersgifts.com/holidayspot).

You must have some fast eyes to have picked up on THAT!  [cheesyb]

I practically LIVE in Borders Books and hand over more money to them than I like to admit.......but I have never, ever seen a television ad for them.  Has anyone else ever seen a Borders TV ad before...???

You know I have seen it too and I wasn't sure if that was who I thought it was.  Thank You for letting me see KLS.  Now when it comes on again, I'll know its her. [ChristmaS0]

Well, the truth is I had heard the commercial on the tv while I was out of the room a couple of times, and I thought it was a commercial for one of those movie trivia games, so, when I finally saw it, I was glued to the screen more to figure out what exactly the ad was for than to see who was in it. When I caught the glimpse of KLS, I figured that I was imagining it as a result of overexposure to DS.   [santa_cheesy]

As long as I don't start seeing Roger Davis' face in a potato chip, I think I'll be ok.  [santa_evil]

Here's a blurb from Adweek  (http://adweek.com/aw/regional/southeast/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000735646) for anyone who's interested in more info on this ad campaign.

I think that KLS says "Couldn't have been the scene of the murder." Does anyone else think she says this? If she does then she does have a line.

She does indeed.  She is part of the reading group.

I dont think KLS said "Couldnt have been the scene of the murder" because it seemed like 1 sentence that the next lady was saying. I didnt notice a change in voice so it had to be the other lady talking and KLS mouthing something.

In the first place, it doesn't sound like her. If you watch that portion of the video closely (which is much easier to do with Quicktime than with Windows Media Player), you can see that her mouth isn't even moving during the first portion of that phrase. Unless KLS has turned ventriloquist, I don't think it's her.  [santa_grin]

I had seen part of the commercial last week and although it did catch my eye, I didn't know it was for Borders (guess I didn't watch it closely enough all the way through).  Was surprised to learn here that my former employer of a few years back is now doing TV ads.

KLS's appearance is almost subliminal ... and no, she is not the one saying the line that someone quoted above ... her voice isn't heard although she does appears to be talking in those few brief frames, but we don't hear what she's saying.

If you watch very carefully, you'll see her in another shot that comes earlier in the commercial than the one posted by victoriawinters.  It's of the same reading group, with the same woman talking, and KLS is on the right side of the screen, in profile, and out of focus.  You'll need to work your pause and frame advance buttons to see it, but it's definitely her.

The teacher in me cannot comment since I keep sneaking over here in between grading final papers.  [santa_evil]

Oh, I'm sure I'll get quite the thrashing when my prof reads my paper.  Every term, I tell myself I won't wait until the last minute, and every term I wait until the last minute.  For that reason, and many others, I'm quite thrilled that next term is my last!

Some of us do our best work under pressure.  I never once completed a college assignment before the last possible moment.

It was hell on the nervous system.....but I can honestly say, it never hurt my grades.   [smrtasb]

I've been wondering if I'd ever get to see it.  I'm watching Earthsea (that I posted about a few weeks ago) and a Borders commercial came on!!  I made sure to watch carefully and recognized her, but certainly would never have noticed it without this.  I hope they put the same commecials on each showing.  I taped the 9 o'clock and I'm watching the 11.  If they have the same commercials, I've got it on tape to go back and check!!

I have to confess that, if I had a good idea of what I wanted to do and/or knew I could complete it quickly, I often waited until just before something was due to do it, too - but with me it was usually about 24 hours before. Cutting it down to just three hours before is way, Way, WAY too much hell on the nervous system!  [haironend]

But unless you're preternaturally brilliant and always received grades of A+ or 100 in all of your classes, just imagine how much better your grades might have been had you put greater effort into it and begun work earlier than you did.  [b003]

But getting back to the real subject of this topic, I have yet to see this Borders ad. I guess I just don't watch the right channels.  :(

I've seen it on both E! and MSNBC, but I realize you probably don't watch that channel because of the MS part.  [santa_azn]

Actually, I don't watch either of them, so that might explain it.  :)

I hope you got your paper done, and congratulations on finishing your program.

I am in a state of sheer panic.  I have until Thursday 5 p.m., less than 48 hours, to complete a 40-hour independent project that I've put about 10 hours into over the past six months.  So that's about 30 hours of work.

My apologies to anyone who I would normally send a personal holiday greeting to.

If I survive, I'll be back on the forum next year.

Have seen the Borders commercial a couple more times but still haven't glimpsed the FIRST fleeting moment of KLS that someone mentioned.

First of all, good luck with completing your project, Vlad!!

I don't think that earlier glimpse is KLS.  When we do see her, she's at the left side of the screen and the person who is talking is across from her.  The earlier instance has the person who was talking and there is a little bit showing of someone next to that person.  The tiny bit I saw, I don't think looked like KLS, plus, from the positioning, I assume it's someone else and that she would still be across the table.
