Title: ANOTHER IE Thing??
Post by: Patti Feinberg on November 17, 2004, 11:28:59 PM
....or is it just me?

Sometimes the icons (new/no new) appear, sometimes it's just a red X (that's IE, no)?

Plus, right now, a few of the buttons such as whatever is right of strikethrough, right of move and a few others aren't there; again, just a red X.

Anyone else have this dilema?

Patti

Patti,  I noticed the red x's on the posting coupon thingie (maybe its official name is a "dialogue box"???) because I was *desperately* searching for the old spoiler text button earlier today.  Not a sign of it.  I suspect the boxes with red x's where images should be is indeed an IE issue.  Personally, so long as I can read and post what I wish, I really don't care.

I do wish I could kill ALL those wretched smilies that nod, blink and wink at me like a pack of demented floozies in an Irish bar at 1:55 a.m. on a Saturday night...

Steve, you've got that wretched smiley because any time you use three consecutive question marks, you are using the code for that smiley.  Use two question marks.  Or use four questions marks.  Just don't use THREE, okay?

And what the hell were you doing in an Irish bar, at 1:55 AM on a Saturday night (???), with a bunch of floozies, ANYWAY?

Not 4.  As long as there are 3 question marks in a row the smiley will show up.  Use less than 3 -OR- open Additional Options under the message window and check the box next to "Don't use smileys".

Yeah but...do you have any problems with kinky smileys brandishing whips, darling?  >:D

Yeah, I'm a nut (just be happy I didn't post the (cough) toy smiley I got a hold of the other day...).

I think I read that either there's a new feature in the soon to be installed next upgrade to the new system or that there soon will be a feature to allow members to disable smileys completely, meaning the members who do so won't see them when they write a new message or when they read other members' messages. (Though, of course, that also means that they won't necessarily know when someone is possibly making a sarcastic or joking comment or if they're actually serious - but that's the chance you take when you disable smileys.  ;))
