Just send me your selection in a message(private) on the board-Others, who feel this way, may do the same.

I don't have a problem posting my opinions right here, so here goes:
Best Actress - Lara Parker
Best Actor - Jonathan Frid
Best Supporting Actress - Nancy Barrett
Best Supporting Actor - Thayer David
Best Director - Henry Kaplan
Best Writer - Sam Hall
Best Costume Design - Not sure
Best Scene - Barnabas shoots Angelique, she places the curse on him and the bat flies in and bites them, leaving both of them unconscious on the drawing room floor at the Old House. The bat may have looked fake, but the scene itself was nevertheless riveting.
Love, Robin

How are you differentiating between Best Actor/Actress and Best Supporting?

How are you differentiating between Best Actor/Actress and Best Supporting?
The Supporting Actor/Actress compliments the Best Actor/Actress during their stellar performance. They are important because they enhance the others talent.

Oh boy, this should be fun!
BEST ACTOR - Louis Edmonds
BEST ACTRESS - Nancy Barrett
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Thayer David
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Clarice Blackburn
BEST DIRECTOR - Lela Swift
Best WRITER - Sam Hall
BEST COSTUME DESIGN - (Not sure about this category) Naomi's 1795 gown(s)
BEST SCENE - Vicki faints after her initial arrival in 1795 when Naomi asks her to "explain herself." (Limited this category to 1795 story line only)
-
Maybe I should explain "Best Costume Design" for participants. It is not the designer but the costume or outfit worn by the actor or actress. You have the right idea Chris. Sorry for the confusion.
-
BEST ACTRESS - Grayson Hall
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Thayer David
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Nancy Barrett
BEST DIRECTOR - Henry Kaplan!!!!
Best WRITER - Sam Hall
BEST COSTUME DESIGN - 1840 Real time
BEST SCENE - 1995 Barnabas laments another lost love (Roxanne) while Julia looks at him longingly and expresses grief for a life lived without love. :'(
-
Best Actress-Lara Parker
Best Actor-David Selby
Best Supporting Actress-Grayson Hall
Best Supporting Actor-John Karlen
Best Director-Henry Kaplan
Best Writer-Sam Hall
Best Costume Design-Naomi's gowns-1795
Best Scene-During the 1795 story when Barnabas shot Angelique and she cursed him for all eternity. That was some scene because it had finally told the story of how Barnabas became what he was. This was fun! Thanks!
-
Too hard for my pointy little head. That would mean making a decision. I could change my mind per episode and mood. The only one I could actually vote for would be a tie
John Karlen and Thayer David for supporting actor.
Have fun with it.

Still unclear about best actor/supporting, but since my choices did do leads in certain storylines, guess I'm covered.
Best Actress: Nancy Barrett
Best Actor: Louis Edmonds
Best Supporting Actress: Clarice Blackburn
Best Supporting Actor: Thayer David
Best Director: Lela Swift
Best Writer: (Tie) Francis Swann and Violet Welles
Best Costume Design: Almost anything Joan Bennett wore with the exception of the swirly paisley dress and the cowl robe thing
Best Scene: Sorry, too hard to pin this down.

Hmmmmm, why isn't anyone specifying WHICH role, when awarding the Acting Oscars? I mean, was Thayer David better as the Professor, or as Ben? Was Julia Hoffman a leading role for Grayson Hall, but the Countess DuPre a Supporting role?
Could it be because, except for the Advanced Scholars among us, remembering ALL the roles EACH of them played is like trying to count waves on the shore?
Just out of curiousity, can anyone name another show where so many actors played as many multiple roles? (Skit-based shows like Saturday Night Live don't count!)

(They may have had supporting roles, but I think that they were the most talented people in the cast.)
Best Actor: Thayer David
Best Actress: Nancy Barrett
Best Supporting Actor: (tie) John Karlen, Jerry Lacy
Best Supporting Actress: Marie Wallace (Jenny Collins)
Best Costume: Any of Joan Bennett's period dresses
I have to admit that I never really paid attention to the writers or directors, and the amazing scenes on the show are too numerous for any one to be 'the best.'
Great topic!

Now that I've been accused of being a yella-bellied coward ;) , here are my picks:
Best Actress: Joan Bennett
Best Actor: Louis Edmonds
Best Supporting Actress: Alexandra Moltke
Best Supporting Actor: John Karlen
Best Director: Lela Swift
Best Writer: Malcolm Marmorstein
Best Costume Design: Barnabas' getup with the cloak
Best Scene: Barnabas tells Carolyn and Vicki the story of Josette's death.
I just thought it would be nice, in keeping with the whole acadamy awards theme, to poll the forum and then hand out the official "Dark Shadows Forums Awards". Ahh, what an honor that would be ::)

Actually, I kind of like your idea-In order to keep it legit, the results needed to be collected by a third party. I did not want to impose a duty on someone. Perhaps Midnite would be willling to collect replys from those, who wish their selection to remain anonymous. I would be grateful because we would like a LARGE response in order to justify the results.

Sure, if anyone would prefer to not post their choices on the board, they can be sent to Midnite@dsboards.com .
Actually, anyone that wants to email me about the board is always welcome to do so.

I think someone should sent the final results to ShadowGram. . .also, maybe for the DSFEST. . .in that way we might find a few of our issues from another post taken more seriously. . now I have to admit at being surprised how many of **you** voted for Grayson for Best Actress. . i thought it was only Steve, Bette and me. . .??? ;D ;D ;D

Why are you surprised Julia99? I have a real neat clock, which I designed, that has the many faces of Grayson (all her DS characters). We all like Julia in our own special way!

<<Hmmmmm, why isn't anyone specifying WHICH role, when awarding the Acting Oscars? I mean, was Thayer David better as the Professor, or as Ben? Was Julia Hoffman a leading role for Grayson Hall, but the Countess DuPre a Supporting role? >>
Based on this, I not only vote for Grayson Hall as the Best Actress, but also as the Best Supporting Actress.

I will have to find a seat next to Angelique!
P.S. By the way, I will be bringing the clock-Now does the hypo still have my name on it? ;)
-
I've been wanting to cast my votes for the longest time. But since VAM didn't set a deadline for voting and I'm somewhat caught up with board stuff this morning (I wish I could say the same for MB), here goes--
Best Actress - NANCY BARRETT
Best Actor - LOUIS EDMONDS
Best Supporting Actress - MARIE WALLACE
Best Supporting Actor - THAYER DAVID
Best Director - LELA SWIFT
Best Writer - VIOLET WELLES
Best Costume Design - FLORA COLLINS' COSTUMES, especially the resplendent red number (not the one on the MPI tape box, but fancier) paired with the ruby and diamond earrings; I'm seeing her in my mind descending the Collinwood stairway, so it must've been PT Flora, or does anyone know for sure?
Best Scene - Roger stops to announce "We'll be back!" before he and Liz, accompanied by Stokes, abandon the great house (and Liz bothered to turn out all the lights-- a nice touch), and as the camera pans the empty house, it comes alive with grammophone music and maniacal laughter, then rests on a certain self-satisfied ghost...
-
Best Actress: Lara Parker
Best Actor: (tie) David Selby/Louis Edmonds
Best Supporting Actress: Nancy Barrett
Best Supporting Actor: (Tie) John Karlen/Thayer David
Best Director: Lea Swift
Best Writer: Violet Welles
Best Costume Design: Not sure of the names of the costume designers but whoever did the guys 1795 togs!
Best Scene: Vicki on the train into Collinsport (talk about anticipation!)
-
Just for the record, I detest that annual statuette contest, so I'm sitting this one out. I think those of you who know me can guess what my choices would be, though.
As I get older and more crotchety (hah!) my innate dislike of awards shows seems to get stronger. I have to admit though that it is fun to read what you all choose as the best. Actually all the principal players with a couple of exceptions have their wonderful scenes and shining moments.
Have fun with this, all of you!
Best,
Steve
