MPI Home Video reissues ... and the four-disc Dan Curtis Collection Macabre Collection ($49.98), assembling the "Dark Shadows" creator's TV-movie takes on a quartet of literary thrillers -- Dracula, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (both starring Jack Palance), The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Turn of the Screw.

Isn't the sound track to J&H where they lifted Quentin's theme from for the series?

"Lifted" is such a strong word.  It implies that Robert Cobert stole his own music.  In composition circles, it's probably best referred to as recycling.  A great tune certainly can and should be recycled by the same composer.  Many classical composers made a habit of recycling.  What one day was an organ concerto theme became a choral number in an oratorio the next.

Besides, which he was working on both the J&H project and DS at the same time.  I can see where the process of recycling was expedient.  Plus, it probably saved a few trees as well for those concerned with the environment since he only needed one piece of paper ;).

Last night was kind of a Dan Curtis night here. I popped in the DVD of The Night Stalker, and when it was over, flipped to the Fox Movie Channel. What should be coming on but Scream of the Wolf. It was the first time I'd seen the latter, and I was anything but impressed. Fairly slick production, but a dull plot and an ending two shades past anticlimactic. Oy.

It is a yes.  Found two sources to confirm this.  One Cobert's own words during his interview on DS DVD Set 5, Disc 4 and the DS Almanac on page 149.  Turns out he also borrowed "I'm going to Dance for You" from J&H plus some other background music.  Someday I'll at least see it and hear if anything is really different.

Thanks! I can't believe I finaly remembered something correctly.

And thanks for your efforts in confirming this.

Isn't it amazing that some of the greatest movies of all time haven't seen the light of day on DVD, and yet some productions less noteworthy seemed to be released on a regular basis, (thank goodness).
