Q: "Good gravy, that should have been a closed coffin wake."

Lara Parker: "Nice moves, Denise. You'll be playing Lolita in a couple of years."
-
[pointing-up] [laughing6] Good one!! [thumb]
-
That Denise! Thanks, MB!!! [easter_smiley]
-
([pointing-up] That Denise, indeed!! [b003] She was hardly an innocent child...)
-
Nope. And she did play Lolita at one point.
-
([pointing-up] That's right - I'd forgotten about that!!)
-
I'm unclear as to how the subject matter would lend itself to a musical. [easter_huh]
-
([pointing-up] Back in the day I remember reading an article that said something like turning Lolita into a musical was a bad idea from the start. It also wasn't very kind to Denise because it said something like not only couldn't she sing but she couldn't play the sexuality of a nymphet. And if that was really true, no wonder the show was DOA...)
-
Denise had a decent enough singing voice, as clips from her tenure on The Electric Company show. Whether it was Broadway caliber or not is not an assessment that I am qualified to make.
She did address the sexpot remark at the time (in Newsweek, I think) by saying that she could play a sexpot just as well as anyone else. Again, an assessment that I am not qualified to make.
-
There is an audioclip of Denise singing a song called Saturday from the play. It's not an official soundtrack recording. The play didn't last long enough to warrant a cast album. It's interesting as a curiosity.
-
([pointing-up] A "curiosity" is a good way to describe it...)
-
And yet not the most bizarre concept for a musical, believe it or not. While Googling Lolita, My Love, one of the other things that popped up was a musical version of The Diary of Anne Frank.
