I stumbled across an old interview with Robin Strasser, where she discussed her early days as an actress in NYC. One of the projects that she auditioned for was Dark Shadows! It had to have been early in the run, as by 1967 Robin was appearing as Rachel on Another World.
Yes, it's been close to fifty years but I can't help wondering what role that she may have auditioned for. I don't see her as either Carolyn or Vicki; perhaps the casting director couldn't either. But Robin could have made a pretty good Maggie Evans, in the original Eve Arden concept. Just the same, things seem to have worked out fine for Robin and Dark Shadows.

Very interesting! And like you, I can't help but wonder what the role was for which she auditioned. I'm honestly surprised, given how prominent Strasser has been in the soap community, that we've never heard what role it was.

that is very interesting casting trivia...
with her black hair she does resemble Joan to some extent. and other characters I've seen her play are rather tightly wound. so I can see her as Carolyn.
not as Vicki or Maggie so much.
and the New York based soap community was very insular at the time. i'll bet lots of well known actors auditioned for parts at one point or another we don't know about.

Marie Wallace said in one of the DVD commentaries that once you had auditioned for a part and gotten the role you never had to "audition" for anything again...
future characters were either written for you specifically or you were cast in a part they thought would be suitable to a particular actor's talents.
