Title: Whine, American Style
Post by: Mark Rainey on March 21, 2002, 05:17:25 AM
I happened upon an entertaining factoid; some of you may know it, but I didn't. Remember the old show Love, American Style? Yes, that one.

Whine-queen Kathy Cody (credited as Kathleen) was in an episode; even got her face in the opening credit heart.

She was paired with Davey Jones, of all people. And here I thought Marcia Brady had dibs on the poor chap.

Wow!  What a gold mine of trivia!  It seems Karen Valentine got her dibs on old Davy as well according to this website! :-* :-*

Neat to see a lot of names of those now very famous like Harrison Ford!  And the LAS show that was the pilot for Happy Days...HeeHee sans Fonz!

Thank You Herr Von Ulm for posting the link to this!

What a trip down memory lane browsing that site was! I'd completely forgotten about at least half of those actors, but their names certainly brought back some happy memories. Thanks for the link, Mark

As for Kathleen ;), many fans are suprised when they learn that she had a pretty busy career after DS. But what was I saying just yesterday about several of the actors going on to do some of their better work after their stints on DS? :)

Thanks, Mark!  But - boy - do I ever feel old now!  I remember that show like it was yesterday and now it's considered "nostalgia".  I liked seeing Eve Arden - after whom our TLATKLAS's character of Maggie was originally modeled.  And, of course, I'm sure everyone remembers when a little sketch called "Love in the Happy Days" led to its own show.  Remember also when they would have those little insert sketches, like one line jokes, which always resulted in somebody commenting about, or being in, a bed?

Also recently caught Kathy on, The Waltons, so I guess she was fairly active after DS. Still waiting to see David Henessey on The Waltons, (the wife saw it on one of those nights I had to work late, duty calls).

Allen Collins, does your wife remember what scene David Henesy was in?  I saw that ep of the Waltons a while back but completely missed him in it, argh.

David's Walton's part is almost non-existant!  I remember the first time seeing it I missed him.  I think someone else pointed out which one he was.  John Boy goes to the college to register or to register to take the scholarship exam, I think.  One of the other students waiting there is David, and I believe they did exchange a few words.  I don't quite recognize him and I'm not sure if he's even in it for a minute!

It's really bizarre when you consider the acting ability (or lack of) of most of the "Walton Kids" (possible exception being Richard Thomas).  On any given show you might get say 20 minutes of the forever whining Mary Ellen and then a kid who spent 5 years on a daily show and made less mistakes overall than many of the adults gets cast in a walk on.  Makes you realize how many other elements - aside from talent - go into casting decisions. [silly]

~ CastleBee ~ Wondering...has anyone else noticed that the older Davy Jones gets the more he looks like Dudley Moore?~

Ack! That's her all right! I'd recognize those ringlets anywhere! I guess they weren't just for 1840 after all!
