While watching 1968....where Amy and David find it.....you know.....it.....they find it.....it....!!!!
Anywho, someone mentions Tom Jennings; I had to think....there was a character Tom Jennings, right?
Could someone post a pic & give me a little background, or, send me anti-whacko drugs?

Tom was the brother (most say twin, but some dispute that part) of Chris Jennings and also played by Don Briscoe. MB's reference was to when Tom had become a vampire and bit Julia. That was his way of calling her.

Tom had the biggest, thickest fangs of any vampire in Collinsport.
Size isn't everything...
BTW, as hot as Briscoe was, I think he gave absolutely the most overwrought vampire portrayal on DS.

Mr. Jennings was certainly easy on the eyes (Julia seemed to enjoy it)...
but comparing this performance to Frid's early work on the series is like night and day. the broad, campy, cartoonish DS 'style' was in full swing by this point in 1968. it bore little resemblance to the subtlety Frid brought to the vampire portrayal.

There's an interview with Frid (I think in Baltimore's City Paper from the 1980s, possibly during the ARSENIC & OLD LACE tour) where he refers to Briscoe's Tom Jennings performance--without naming Briscoe--as "nearly pornographic," or words to that effect. I wonder if he was thinking of the scene where Jennings closes in on a flailing Betsy Durkin with pop-eyed, tongue-twirling relish.
I personally blame whoever was directing at that time--Henry Kaplan always wanted "more" from the actors. Nobody ever thought these would be seen again after the single broadcast so sometimes the actors just "went with it."

i've only been able to get through ms. durkin's ultra-brief tenure on the series once...
i found those weeks (the death throes of the 'adam' plot) to be almost unwatchable. [snow_sick2]
the show regained it's footing with the start of the quentin storyline. a great old fashioned haunting.

I think Dirk was extreme because he was crazy then, though, not just because he was a vampire. And I love Crazy Dirk.... Tom just seemed to be hamming it up, like he was playing vampire with some kids in someone's basement...
