Title: The Creamy Goodness of Tom Jennings
Post by: Gothick on March 11, 2004, 09:35:22 PM
My, my, my...

I do so devoutly hope that my fellow Briscoeholics get the chance to look at today's Montage!

The closeup of dreamy Tom, asleep in his bed, his white throat turned up to await the latest Hickey of the Undead, is almost too good to be true.

Knowing what goodies lie ahead here actually makes me happy I'm not going on vacation during the next couple of weeks!

Cheers, G.

I'm right there with you, Gothick. Bless Angelique's heart - she gets all the action. And with a hottie like Tom, why'd she have to go and kill him off right away - couldn't she have snacked on his tasty neck a little while longer, and have strung him along as she did Joe, Jeff and Barnabas? You realize we had to wait until the House Of Dark Shadows movie to see Briscoe in pajamas again!?

The montage for episode #563 may now be gone - but remember that the screen caps for it are available in Robservations.  ;)

I've just started DVD collection 9, so I'm getting close to the first appearance of Don Briscoe--can't wait! I've actually never seen him as Tom Jennings either, I originally came in around the time Quentin appears on the show.

Today is DON BRISCOE'S BIRTHDAY, so in honor of such, I am screening a Dark Shadows "Jennings-a-thon" - his best scenes as Tom & Chris. A vampire and a werewolf, they laugh alike, they walk alike, at times (once?) they're even in the same scene together (10 points for the true Briscoe-holic who can name where that scene took place). Maybe I'll throw in a quick Tim Shaw fix too.  It's March 20! Happy Birthday, Don.

At Nicky Blair's house.  Oops, can Selby-holics play too?  :D

Joe also had a dream about both Tom and Chris, but of course Don B. didn't play himself in wolf mode.

10 POINTS FOR MIDNITE (yes, Selby-holics can always play with the Briscoe-holics: it's all about family), and a BONUS 5 POINTS for mentioning the "Joe's 'Double Briscoe' Dream in his jail cell" episode. Excellent, Midnite.
Well, I had the "Jennings-a-thon," featuring episodes where Tom first bites Dr. Julia Hoffman - and I say, move over Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft in "The Graduate", because the sultry chemistry between the stud pup vampire Tom and our mature, tough but vulnerable Julia makes the screen sizzle when lily white necks and Don Briscoe's hungry fangs become one.

Thank you, Sandor!  Woo hoo.

Your description sounds so... poetic.  :)

Sandor,
On more than one occasion my daughter and I have talked about how we would have LOVED to see Grayson in the role of Mrs. Robinson!!

ANYWAY, my growing fondness for Don Briscoe, all the talk about Tom the Vampire, and the interesting montage, make me really wish I could see these shows.  I don't remember them and I don't have these episodes on tape.

Can somebody tell me the online address for MPI????
I went looking for it earlier and couldn't find it.  I'm hoping maybe the tapes are pretty cheap now?????

Oooo!  Thanks Midnite.  I just checked and single tapes appear to be $6.00.  I'm gonna get a couple.  Maybe I'll surprise LAFB.  She's got the hots for Mr. Briscoe.  [lghy]
(He IS rather sweet.  I mean, he's no ~you know who~, but he's definitely a cutie)

Interesting, Sandor, that you mention Mrs Robinson and The Graduate.  In a press interview Grayson did shortly before the 1965 Oscars, she mentioned that Mike Nichols had contacted her about a part in the Graduate.  I think she would have made a FABULOUS Mrs. Robinson.

Don't get me wrong--I think Bancroft did a fabou job in the role, but of course I would crawl over broken glass in a darkened alleyway through South Boston to see Grayson in that part!

Oh!, I love the look on Grayson's face.

You have great timing for purchasing the tapes, Connie. I received the email just this morning about MPI's 40 - 50% off sale, and the list (http://www.mpihomevideo.com/sale.asp) of applicable TV shows and documentaries includes DS.  Apparently the $23.98 per 4-pack or $5.98/tape lasts through March.

BTW, Gothick, I finally did see Grayson Hall in "Satan in High Heels."  I had  mentioned seeing the DVD at Borders maybe a year ago, and bought it on your recommendation.

Her performance was solid, flawless.  Perhaps the best she gave, or at least the best single, extended performance we have of her on film.

Unfortunately I let the opportunity to screen "Qui etes-vous Polly Magoo" slip through my fingers.  It was on my agenda to see at the Walker before I left Minneapolis, but I just didn't have time for it.   :(

I've got to see Satan In High Heels!! I love Grayson but have yet to see her in anything other than DS! It's funny, because I've always remembered Gargoyles as a movie that scared the hell out of me as a kid, and I had no idea that she had a small part in it! I will have to get that on DVD. I just got this really cool fanzine called A Gift Of Memory and can't wait to read it. Back to the topic of Tom Jennings, I just finished the episode before his first appearance and cannnot wait to see the next one!!

For a Grayson fan, Satan in High Heels is a *must*.  I think Pepe may be my all time favorite Grayson performance.  The script isn't Shakespeare but our gal gets some great one liners, and some marvelous world-weary expressions.  One of my favorites is when the eponymous heroine is commending Pepe (Grayson's character) upon her cooking and G says something about her housekeeper usually comes in and does the cooking but today's her day off.

Stacey:  "She's better than you?"
Pepe: *beat, lowers eyes, looks up, smiles provocatively* ... In the kitchen.

There used to be a site that had a clip from the movie available for free download. And our very own Claude North designed a gorgeous page with wonderful photos of Grayson in this.  I'll see if I can find the URL.

There's a link to a QuickTime video clip at the bottom of this page:

Unfortunately the page is no longer there.  I think it included the fabulous shoe shopping scene.  :(

But, there are Pepe pics here too:

Connie, you're awesome. Great shot of Briscoe! Where did you find it? I'm heading over to the mausoleum to look for Tom (or Chris) now!

Well, if you're heading to the mausoleum you're heading in the right direction.  lol
I didn't find the picture anywhere.  I captured it from an episode I happen to have on tape.  Don't remember much about it but he's in there with Joe Haskell, and Joe is rather perturbed  -  something about him thinking it's Chris but he turns out to be Tom or something???  Maybe somebody knows what this is from.

Anyway, I remember Crothers being very good in it and, well, Briscoe is just.....I don't know.  Adorable??  Scrumptious?  Hot stuff??
