Title: The Woman in the Window on tonight!
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on September 30, 2014, 11:59:56 PM
I just noticed that Joan Bennett's The Woman in the Window is on THE WORKS tonight at 8pm. The channel features movies from the MGM libraries, but it supposedly only reaches 31% of U.S. households, so you may not even have it in your area. And unfortunately I can't even find a Web site for the channel so that people can check if it is. And even though it is available in my area, it's only available over the air, and I can't pull it in. But those of you who already know that you have access may want to check Joan out considering that the film is widely regarded as one of her best.

And there's even more of a DS connection, too:  if I recall aright, WOMAN IN THE WINDOW was one of the films The Divine Joan did with Fritz Lang.  It is said in one of the KLS books that Lang made a visit to the DS studio one day, to visit Joan.  According to KLS, Lang made some lighting suggestions on the set, which were immediately adopted.

It's a lovely thought... and maybe it really happened...

The Works is on channel 38.6 here is SF.
The Woman in the Window is a great film until the cop-out ending that was beneath Lang and Joan. I far prefer the masterpiece Scarlet Street or the spooky, DS-like Secret Beyond the Door.

So it hasn't expanded beyond the 12 Titan owned stations it launched with back in May. That doesn't bode well for it lasting very long. But who knows? Though at least the people who can access it can enjoy it for as long as it is around...

It began on only 6 stations, but now it's up to 12, two of them non-Titans. They need a website and some publicity.

Their own Web site would definitely help.  [hall2_wink]

Considering they have the MGM libraries, I wonder if they'll ever show the two original DS films? Or perhaps Turner has them exclusively.

I think Warners owes all three DS films. They could play on Warners' HBO/Cinemax, but it's only TCM for now, but at least they get shown.
HODS& NODS are both part of this month's TCM Halloween lineup! [citrouille]

That's good to hear the films are being broadcast again.

I find it difficult to stomach the incredible resentment I feel towards WB's home video dept for thwarting the NoDS restoration project.

It's so hard to keep track of all the industry's mergers and acquisitions (Turner and AOL and Time Warner and what have you), but doesn't Warner now own the entire MGM catalog of movies?

What NODS need is a filthy rich DS fan (Stephen King, Madonna, Whoopi, Rosie O'Donnell, Oprah) to pay for the restoration. Or maybe Mr. Depp or Ms. Pfeiffer?

What's sad (or, maybe NOT) is that this week, here outside Atlanta, the newsstations have been mentioning the cutbacks to TNT, HLN, other 'Titan-types'.
But, again, perhaps it's because more & more (mostly young) peeps won't pay for a gazillion TV stations they don't want; they're just doing the Hulu or Netflix, etc.
