Title: Carrie Stokes
Post by: A.I.Collins on December 20, 2003, 04:07:48 AM

 Hey Guys...

Just wondering, Is Carrie Stokes living in the cottage all by herself?..how old is she supposed to be?....does she not have a parent or guardian in Parallel time?

She mentioned being grateful to the Collins family for allowing her and her father to live in the gatehouse.

I did hear Carrie mention how happy she was that she and her father were allowed to live in the coach house..
thus although he is not seen Carrie is not without adult supervision..  alas I would gladly give up Carrie to have seen more Tad if he existed in PT.

 Hey there!

Thanks. I must have missed Carrie saying the line that confirmed her adult supervision. Just imagine if she were living in that cottage all by herself. She could have "way cool!" sleepovers.

Just a thought,

I thought it was strange that the young Ms. Stokes was associating with the adults such as Quentin and Gabriel. *sheds tear* It was just a month a two or ago when she playing with Tad...

It does seem odd to me that Carrie should be alone at the cottage without a chaperone or any adult supervision whatsoever.  Would a proper young lady of the 1840's be permitted to live under such circumstances?  Or are we to believe that customs are different in parallel time?

why must we be cursed with Carrie AT ALL is what i want to know. . .

Because, as we mentioned during the 1840 storyline, Kathy Cody was under contract and they were obligated to use her...

Truthfully, I think Carrie is used quite efficiently in this storyline, as opposed to how she simply seemed to flit around in 1840. (But having one's costar decide that he doesn't really want to take part will do that to you.)

I agree with this. Carrie didn't seem to have any purpose during 1840, and she just seemed to pop up every once in awhile. Now she actually has some sort of purpose.

I also have to say that I've never had any problem with Kathy Cody or her characters. While she is far from my favorite actress (I think Denise Nickerson was better than her), I don't think she's one of the worst either. *shrugs* While I didn't like it when there was a Hallie overdose during the summer of 1970, I don't mind her when she just pops up every once in awhile.

Perhaps a better question might be, considering it's a well known fact that in the daytime/soap industry it's standard practice for actors who are hired to play major, continuing roles (i.e. Hallie/Carrie) to be signed to contracts lasting anywhere from a year to five years, why would you doubt, even for a moment, that Kathy Cody was under contract?  [confused5]

because she wasn't really used that much. . .it seems like they started on an idea and then dropped it. . hence she could've been a non-contract player.  That was also done in the day, not so much now.

Actually, non-contract status is something that's being done more and more in these days of buget-conscious-daytime-production. Recently several GH actors were asked to drop to non-contract status (though some (like Kristina Wagner) chose to leave the show instead). However, in Kathy Cody's case one has to remember that her situation was different. She was used heavily in the Summer of 1970 period but less so in 1840, not because she wasn't under contract, but because the unavailability of David Henesy left the writers scrambling to find something to do with her. At least when it came to 1841PT, Henesy's absence was no longer at issue.

But anyway, here's but one write-up from the daytime magazines (this dated July 1972) that references Cody's DS contract status:

Beautiful Kathleen Cody, who just one year ago was under contract to one of the most popular soaps in daytime history, Dark Shadows, where she played the dual roles of Hallie/Carrie Stokes ("I loved my time on the show"), now finds herself the lucky recipient of a contract for a three picture deal at Disney. Eighteen now and living with her folks in New York, she'll be returning to Hollywood soon for her next Disney assignment...

And in case anyone is interested, her three Disney films were:

I have begun to wonder if Carrie was brought in not only because she was under contract, but because James Storm became unavailable. Their characters serve the same purpose, as a psychic who used supernatural means to reveal hints and thereby foreshadow later plot points. Its more odd that James Storm made 2 quick appearences, ending with him heavily implyinh he would continue to be around. Anybody else notice this, almost a "bait and switch."
I do agree Kathy Cody is much better used here than as DS's "Jan Brady."

Does Kathy Cody still work in the industry?

My info is at least six years old, but the last I read she was living in Florida with her family, occasionally doing local commercials and industrial films. I believe she was also the spokeswoman for a few different companies.

Perhaps someone else knows something more up to date...

I don't mind Carie Stokes, and although many people didn't care for Hallie or Carie, I didn't have a problem with them. I especially liked how Carie was infatuated with Gerard, but then finds a more likely match with Jeremy grimes. It allowed us to see a bit of normalcy among all the spookiness.

I have never understood all the hate towards Hallie. Maybe it's just me, but she was a sweetheart. Even though I liked Amy a bit more as David's companion, I still think Hallie was an all-around nice girl. I'll take her over Alexander and Michael (I hate these Leviathan kids!!!) any day.

I also liked Carrie Stokes and
thought her little "romance" with Jeremy was cute. Too bad it didn't work out for them though. But I suppose Jeremy's hardened change-of-heart (his believing Quentin a warlock and killed his father) was too much of a jolt for her.
