Title: MPI Mailing
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on December 10, 2003, 05:27:13 AM
I just went down for today's mail (hey, it's been a busy afternoon/night) and I discovered that my copy of the MPI mailing SG Update mentioned would be arriving soon did.

Nice picture from the DS Reunion DVD...

Hopefully the interview with Matt Hall on DVD Collection 10 will be something that we haven't already seen...

And SG wasn't kidding when they said MPI was going to be drastically discounting the VHS tapes. $5.98 a tape! Whoa!
To think I foolishly paid $19.98 for mine. Who knew they'd fall to $12.98 - and now $5.98?
Pretty soon MPI might just be giving them away!  [lghy]

MB, is this just for episode tapes? Or is this for the reunion thing the cast did this summer at fest?

If you mean the $5.98 sale, it's simply for the epiosde tapes, Patti.

There's no price listed for the Return To Collinwood CD - simply an ad that says it will be available in 2004.  ;)
(The picture I referred to from the Reunion DVD was from the Directors Guild reunion at the Museum of Television and Radio in Hollywood.)

Since we moved, we haven't had cable and have been buying the tapes on a pace with Sci Fi. NOW that I was down to the last 5 I needed, they drop the price. Anyway, I'm still celebrating I will have the entire run between the red and blue tapes. By the way, the blue or "Classic Series" might still be of interest as a lot of the episodes have those charming clapboard moments, a few seconds at the opening that don't appear on the DVDs.  ;)

Yeah.  And if you enroll in the DVD Club now, you'll receive the "hypnotizing and handsome" Barnabas Bobblehead doll FREE!

AND, after you complete your first year (6 sets at the retail price of $59.98) you'll be able to get the EXCLUSIVE Dark Shadows Collector's Casket for only $1.  (Holy shit!)

Hey, I can't imagine why I got this flyer in the mail.  Have never purchased anything from MPI.  Must be that Fest.  Did anyone else who went to the Fest get the flyer??  Seems you can't go anywhere or do anything any more without getting put on a list.  Last week I got a solicitation from Women's Care Cottage.  What I'm REALLY hoping for though, is the chance to buy into one of Roger Davis' real estate deals (at a discount rate).   ;)

 ;D

That's what it is. Once you've been added to the Fest's mailing list, you're automatically added to MPI's.

True.  :-   But I actually look on this particular case as a good thing.  :)

I have ordered many things from MPI and have never received any mailings ever.  Maybe they don't like me or my money.

Gee, that seems really strange, onyx_treasure. I've never bought anything directly from MPI and I've been receiving their maillings since 1990. One would think that people who buy from them would automatically be added to whichever mailing list corresponds closest to their purchase.  :-

Have you at least received a DS catalogue or flyer with some of your orders?

MB,
MPI has only sent me a catalog when I call and request one.  The last one I received was the 2000 catalog.  I guess I should call them and request a newer addition.  The catalog before that was the 30th anniversary catalog.  I don't understand why I do not receive any mailings since I have ordered many tapes from them. :-   I depend on this site to keep me up to date on what is currently available.

Is there any artwork shown for "Return to Collinwood", out of interest?

Just a photo of a fog laden Collinwood. This particular photo has appeared in one of the past calendars, as well as one or more of KLS's books.

Marcus......loved the Bobbleheaded boobie  :)

hi
i called mpi friday and requested a new catalog. the somewhat unfriendly woman on the phone told me there wouldn't be a new catalog released until at least january, and that the most current catalog was from 2001 . what's up with that?

Me neither MB.  I've been ordering from them for years now and have never received any catalog, flyer or anything, not even with my orders.  I get so much junk from everyone else and this is the one place where I'd love to get something from!  I never even knew they had a catalog. :(

I never even knew they had a catalog. :(

MPI has had eight catalogues (1990-1996, 2000) and two flyers (1998 & 2003). I've just assumed that MPI would include their own customers in their mailings, but apparently not...

I also find calling MPI will get you a somewhat unfriendly person to do business with.  They are not out an out rude just somewhat unfriendly.

It appears as though there is some confusion regarding the MPI mailing list, so I thought I would take some time to clear that up.  MPI's mailing list is an opt-in mailing list.  That means that to be added to the mailing list you either need to request a catalog via phone or e-mail or have joined through an alternate method (ie - DS convention mailing list).

MPI's privacy policy posted at www.mpihomevideo.com outlines this policy in greater detail.  While there are many people who automatically like to receive mailings upon purchases, that approach can be viewed as unethical since there are also many people who do not wish to receive these mailings automatically.  That is the reasoning behind making the mailing list opt-in...

For those of you with internet access, you might wish to sign up to recieve the monthly MPI Home Video newsletter from www.mpihomevideo.com.  This newsletter was created to announce new releases as well as notify fans of all special offers at MPI.  The DS VHS blowout was also announced on this newsletter in early December.

Thanks again & hopefully I've been able to clear up any confusion regarding the mailing list.

Well, when one realizes that's the explanation, then it makes absolutely perfect sense that MPI's customers wouldn't automatically be added to the mailing list. It's a commendable policy that more companies should actually adopt.

Thanks for taking the time to explain things.  :)  Now in the future we'll know enough to tell fans that they need to specifically request to be added to the list...

Yesterday, I received a mailing from MPI with an offer to join the club and receive a Barnabas Bobblehead.  I hope they will start sending me catalogs, too.  I just signed up for the newsletter.

Oh my Sweet Goddess, that Bobbleheaded Booby image from Mark Rainey is an absolute scream!  I read that at a convention in Canada, the two Jonathans were on stage together.  I don't know whether they were performing... I think it was just a Q & A, but what a great sight this must have been. They are the REAL dynamic duo!

Try asking MPI if they will send you their OLD catalogues.  I have kept all of mine.  They are printed on glossy paper, with lots of photos--some of them a little on the rare side.  I particularly love the one they did the year they started the Collectors Series (the 1966 tapes).

Thanks! I was just going to click on the links you posted but then checked my mail and there it was!  I got the same flyer as MB did and the picture on the reunion DVD looks great!

Funny, I didn't get the mailing, but my sister did.  I was the one to purchase the tickets to the fest.  The only other explanation is that the person bringing in the mail throw it away.  It could not be the husband I am sure he would have thrown out the 8 million store ads that come every day, somehow they survive.  I guess MPI didn't like me either.
