Title: Lisa Richards
Post by: Joeytrom on May 07, 2014, 02:10:34 PM
Does anyone know why she didn't appear in 1897?

She waits out the entire 8 month storyline and returns in Leviathan.

Good question.

I've always suspected that, given Sabrina's severe appearance due to her encounter with the werewolf, DC & Company probably didn't want Lisa Richards to be seen as, for lack of a better term, "normal" until Sabrina had her makeover during Leviathans. They wanted the image of Lisa Richards as the shattered Sabrina to remain uppermost in our minds and for nothing to change that, which her playing a character in 1897 possibly would have.

Makes sense to me, MB.

It makes sense I think if they weren't planning to spend an enormous amount of time in 1897.

Anyone care to muse on which established role Lisa Richards could have taken on in 1897?

I asked Lisa about this many years ago. During the bulk of the 1897 story, she was doing theatre at the Tyrone Guthrie in Minnesota. When that came to an end, she returned to NYC and DS.

In 1897, maybe she could have played Julianka.

Though originally they weren't planning on spending such an enormous time in 1897. It wasn't until well into the fact that 1897 became such a huge ratings success that they decided to extend it.

Anyone care to muse on which established role Lisa Richards could have taken on in 1897?

It would have been quite ironic if she had played Dorcas Trilling - but irony aside, I don't see her in that part. Tessie Kincaid might have been a better fit - and that role would have brought the same sort of irony. But honestly I don't think Lisa Richards would have been right for any of the smaller characters that were brought in, and certainly none of the major characters.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think she was exotic enough for Julianka. I mean, just look at the actress they did cast in that role.  [easter_wink]

Julianka was the first role to come to mind for me also, but as MB stated, I don't see her pulling it off (my words not MB's). I think of Lisa as a 'genteel' actress. My next thought went to Rachel Drummond.

I take back that Lisa Richards wouldn't have been right for any of the major roles because in a world without KLS I think LR could have pulled off that role. But Rachel was so tailored to KLS that I don't think that for even the slightest second TPTB flirted with anyone else playing Rachel. With the exception of Beth, all of the initial major 1897 characters were created with a specific star in mind.

I like to think they'd have created a character for her, but hey, how about... Amanda Harris?!

was lisa under contract or "recurring"?

she was on(and off)the show for about a year is that correct?

getting a bit off-topic but I was always sort of disappointed terry crawford never appeared as a "present time" character. she's the only major female player we never got to see in "modern" clothing.
[Please post responses in topic Terry Crawford --admin]

apparently most of the DS actors were not under any sort of contract at all.  I don't know how DCP got away with this... it may have been a common practice on soaps at the time.  I just don't know.  KLS admitted in the original edition of SCRAPBOOK MEMORIES that her original contract on the show had run out for many months before her final episode--which implies to me that if she was signed to a contract it might have been for three years.  Again, don't know.
