Title: OT-when are we officially middle aged
Post by: Julia99 on September 30, 2003, 09:23:13 PM
I remember in Civics class back in Jr High school that 35 was the official designation of middle age . .. as I cross into 36 today, i wonder, am i officially middle aged according to those govt statisticians?

Happy Birthday, darling!

Hope your day is special, and may it be the start of the best year ever!

My life really began at 40, so I personally have no regrets whatsoever about being designated Middle Aged.

Happy Birthday, Julia99!!![/size]

As the cheesy 70's commercial used to say: "You're not getting older, you're getting better!"

Besides, middle age doesn't start until you're like 60, right?  ::)

I turned 40 earlier this year, so I know how you feel.  But you know what?  If your health is good and you're enjoying life, so what if you're "middle aged?"

Hope your day is the greatest!

Love,

Cassandra Blair

Well, if you were to live to, say, 90, you've pretty much been middle-aged for six years already - youth: 0-30, middle-aged: 30-60, senior: 60-90. But, of course, should you not live until 90, well, who knows how long you've already been middle-aged?  [b003]

Happy Birthday (http://www.dsboards.com/db/YaBBImages/cool.gif)

Happy Birthday, J99! I hope you have a great day.  I wish I was 36 again.  My older sister has been 29 for 10 years!

A very happy birthday, J99--enjoy every second of it--and every second for the rest of your very long life!

I say age is completely a state of mind.  I'm turning 50 in December, but my body has been telling me for quite a while now that I'm REALLY 100!  My brain refuses to believe it, so I've got a 20 year old brain in a 100 year old body.  Talk about your middle-age spread!

Party like it's 2999, my friend!

Love, Robin

Juila99,

Age 36?  Are you kidding me!?!  Heck, I'm beginning to think of Ezra Braithwaite, "Grandmama" Edith Collins, the Eagle Hill Cemetery Caretaker, and the seemingly ageless (and delightful) Bathia Mapes as my own personal Dark Shadows rat pack/contemporaries!!!

In any event, Happy Birthday to you!!!

Now, please excuse me while I take time to apply my personal supply of "Sham-A-Nee" (sp?) facial lotion.

Sincerely,

Bob the Aging Bartender (a/k/a "The Methuselah of DS Fandom!!!)

A VERY Happy Birthday to You!!!!!!!!

As a fellow 36-year-old, I feel I can say that 36 is not middle aged.  Actually, I don't think there is a "middle age" anymore.  Credit for that belongs to the baby boomers who keep pushing back the "official" starting age of middle age.   ;D

Hope you had a great day!

John

Denial is such a convenient thing, isn't it?  [lghy]

(Whatever you do, don't check out www.middleage.com because they say middle-age could actually begin as early as 25. And definitely don't check out US life expectancy statistics because the average current life expectancy is 75 years [hence why middle-age could begin at 25].  ;D)

MB (who at 47 isn't in denial that he's possibly only three years away from becoming a senior citizen and eligibility to join the AARP.  [wink2])

Happy birthday, Julia99!  The way to determine if you're middle-aged is to convert it to dog years.  Then use whatever figure makes you the most comfortable.

Julia99,

When I turned 36, I decided that middle-age would always begin two years after my actual age.  So here I am, ten years later, still trying to get away with this approach!

Happy birthday,

Ben
(crooning to myself, "When I was 36 ... it was a very good year ...")

Like MB, I'm sitting here at this 47th year wondering the same thing you are J99.  I've decided I haven't gotten there yet.  ;)  Yes, denial is a wonderful thing.  I like this delusional little world.    Hope it was a grand day.

MB (who at 47 isn't in denial that he's possibly only three years away from becoming a senior citizen and eligibility to join the AARP.  [wink2])

I'm also 47 (well, in a few months, anyway) and like some of the rest of y'all, I feel like a younger mind (in my case, 30ish) in a 45+ year old body.  I can't bring myself to say "I'm getting old" and I'll probably have my first middle-age crisis when I hit 50 and get that AARP in the mail.  LOL.

I thought 25 was great, then I hit ("never trust anyone under") 30 and survived it.  Then 35, which was a non-event, and then 40 (I was in the best health and shape in my life at 40!) and last year 45.  Oh well. . .thank goodness for DARK SHADOWS (and my other interests, like Rodgers and Hammerstein and Stephen Sondheim) that helps me to remain young!

Brian
