Dear all, well i recently had some bloodwork done
last Tuesday at my primary care doctor's and
the reason i had to see him, was because of
the medication i was on and had to get another
re-fill. So he took some Bloodwork like cholestrol
i wanted check ( never had that checked) but
i found out today when i went to the appt and
my cholestrol was high for my age . The reading
was 249 so the doc put me on a very strict diet
and then he mentioned something else that i
have to have done a ultrasound of the abdomen
on October 8th to see if it effected my liver.
Please pray for me that everything will be fine.
i've been in tears all day about it.
Love To All Anne :-[ :'(

Annie -- Best wishes to you. Hope the ultrasound won't reveal any problems. As for the cholesterol, there's lots you can do to control it. I have monstrously high cholesterol (it runs in the family), and I'm taking Pravachol, which has not exhibited any side effects whatsoever. Before I started taking it, a couple of years ago, my cholesterol was well over 300, and now it's just over 200; still borderline high, but it's a huge improvement and the doctor isn't worried about it at this point. 249 can be controlled OK.

It seems doctors often run tests just to rule out the possibility of something serious, if that puts your mind to ease at all, Annie. Although, I had the misfortune of a very serious diagnosis some years ago which the younger doctor with my insurance didn't think was anything to worry about before the test, but our old experienced family doctor was pretty sure was serious (as it turned out to be). Nevertheless, thanks to excellent treatment, I'm fine today! So hang in there!

Lots of good wishes to you, Anne! A lot of the cholesterol-lowering drugs can affect the liver, so perhaps this is just a precaution to make sure all is well. I certainly hope the results are good! :)

I hope the best for you, Annie! I'm sure the doctor has caught your cholesterol in time to treat it, and that everything will be all right. Please keep us posted of your progress.

Annie ~
I'm so sorry to hear this. But don't be afraid! They can do so much now with the new high cholestrol meds. Take it a day at a time and don't let your imagination run away with you. Believe me I know that if you can get control of that you've won half the battle. You will certainly be in my prayers.

Please ease your mind, Anne--before my doctor put me on cholesterol-lowering Lipitor a few years ago, he had me do some liver tests just to make sure my liver was all right. It's precautionary, just to rule out any problems in that area before you're placed on a cholesterol lowering medication, which, as someone here mentioned, can affect the liver.
I also have to wonder--how good is your doctor if this is the first time you've ever had your cholesterol tested? I wonder if he isn't just covering his butt because he waited too long to have you tested? At your age, you should have the complete battery of blood work once a year, including blood sugar, lipid profiles, etc.
Please don't worry. I am sure everything will be all right!

The liver is a wonderful organ that can bounce back from a lot! i had some wacky liver tests after fertility drugs and after stopping them
it all returned to normal! Try the diet first and see if repeat tests are
better!

God bless ya Annie--I know you'll be OK!
I'm really into health & vitamins--been megadosing on vitamins & a vegetarian for years. I'm 47, but a lot of people think I look around 32, and I have more energy now than when I was 25!
send me an IM if you like, and I'll tell you a few things you can do to reverse your situation.
I KNOW YOU'LL BE FINE!
WE ARE ALL BEHIND YOU!

Annie, put your mind to rest, I have had high cholesterol for years and have been taking meds for it. Like Mark's, mine runs in the family. My diet was never the issue. My doctor tested me when I was in my 30's. Also have high blood pressure, this comes from being what he calls a stress-magnet. Luckily the meds keep it in line. When, I go to the doctor, I just look at him and ask him what else he can find wrong with me. i have had no side effects from any of the meds.
