Title: OT - Vincent Price - Young and Old
Post by: CastleBee on September 11, 2003, 08:37:57 PM: A few days ago I was surfing around (or should I say Googling around) for info on movie props and I found this most bizarre page called...

The City Morgue Gift Shop(http://www.citymorguegiftshop.com (http://www.citymorguegiftshop.com)).

Among other oddities, they sell life masks. Of course, I had to take a look at the stock and just guess who I found in the Life Mask section ... Vincent Price and not only that but they have two of him - youngish 1940's Vincent and then one from the 1980's. Oddly, I found it either the same day or the day after I read Arashi's post in which she mentions the difference in the way he looked back when and then later in life as most of us best remember him. Anyway, I made a little web page of the masks for anyone interested in seeing them go to...

I looked all over to find a picture of Mr. Price as Clifford Pyncheon in House of Seven Gables but alas. I did find one of him as Nicholas Van Ryn in Dragonwyck. This was circa 1946, making him 35 at the time.

Death masks, were they a common practice back in the day? I'm not sure.

I KNOW! The biggest change was his mouth...the '80's mask makes me think of Droopy Dog.

I don't know much about them myself. I assumed they were pretty popular for the rich and famous before the invention of photography.

I know its kinda hokey by todays standards but it still gives me the shivers. I just love Vincent Price in any movie. Thanks again, Castlebee.

One of the first places I sought out in my new city was Borders (thank god they have one, but only, one store here -- I'm used to having three I could go to, and half a dozen B&N's) ... Anyway, I was browsing the DVD section and found that Price's one-man Poe show, "An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe," which I've enthusiastically promoted in the past, is now out on DVD. It's a double feature with my personal favorite of the Price - Corman - Poe movies, "The Tomb of Ligeia." And it costs only $12!! ;D
