Greetings!
This has turned out to be a weekend of good fortune for me. Recently, I was accepted graduate school--I'm pursuing an MBA--so I finally had the perfect excuse to purchase a computer. I bought it on Friday and have been enjoying the process of setting it up and learning how to use all the features (I switched from Windows to Mac).
Then on Saturday, I received a letter from my college announcing that I had been awarded a Dean's Fellowship! This was completely unexpected, as I did not apply for the award. The decision was based on my entrance application and previous academic performance. Naturally, I am very excited about receiving this award!
Thanks for letting me brag! ;D
Regards,
John

Will you have to buy all new software? (ie, if you had excel on Windows, do you now have to re-buy, and how do you convert 'stuff' from Windows to Mac?)

This is indeed wonderful news! Have fun with your new system.
Ah, the leaves are starting to fall, a wonted crispness bites the air, and school bells ring out once more... The sound of hassled parents cheering and hooting carouses vaguely in the distance.

Contratulations, John. [thumb] I'm very impressed. ;)
Also, best of luck with your new computer (excellent decision not to go with Windows/Microsoft - I'm even more impressed by you having made THAT decision. ;D).
The sound of hassled parents cheering and hooting carouses vaguely in the distance.
Funny, I heard crys vaguely in the distance, but I thought ihey sounded more like moans of despair from teachers/administrators who've not only seen school funding slashed (thanks to state budget shortfalls and Federal policies) but have learned that they're expected to accomplish a hell of a lot more with a hell of a lot less resources. :-

Just the other day I read that our closest state college (SUNY Stonybrook....generally considered the best Math/Science state school in NY) accepted 2100 fewer students this fall than last. 2100 students !!!! I almost dropped my coffee cup in my lap.
My kid doesn't want to go there (too close to home...she wants to go AWAAAAY) but I'm sure it's the same situation in every other SUNY school. I make myself sick thinking about how much harder it's going to be for her to go to college than it was for her her father and me.

Great news John congrats! Now did $$ come with that fellowship. . .does it mean you can stave off the j.O.b. a bit?
-
What great news - I'm very happy for you! [thumb]

Congratulations !!! ;D
Get on with your bad self.

Congratulations, John! And landing the scholarship is absolutely fantastic - they know they must've gotten themselves a real winner and a benefit to the school!

John, it pleases me that every once in a while, good things happen to deserving people.
I wish you much luck in your endeavors, and much joy, too.
Love, Robin

Oh MB...waddya you complaining about...come on...Iraq NEEDS 34 B I L L I O N dollars to rebuild (since we tore it down).
I mean, hey, who needs health insurance or quality education?
(in my own district...no art, no music) only 2 3rd grade teachers, plus many, many cuts AND they've SUBSTANTIALLY raised property insurance, ie, less for more! [greed]
But hey....let's give some $$$ to some 'underpriviledged' country (like, America)
Thanks for letting me vent [furious3]

......(in my own district...no art, no music)
If they dropped art and music but kept the sports teams intact I suggest you and your fellow parents pick up your pitchforks and march on down to the next Board of Education meeting. How can a child who's never exposed to art and music possibly be considered "educated" ???

Oh, you two are so "old world"!
There'd be no one to swoon over and date if you got rid of sports. [wink2]
-
CONGRATULATIONS!!
That sounds like an impressive achievement. I suspect that the fact that you had the guts and sense to switch from Windows to Mac proves that you are a smart cookie indeed! ;D
Best of luck to you!

now dom dear i agree ;) always love that "game within the game"
others may have swooned over rock stars but it was Jim Palmer
in his briefs that made this once teenage girl swoon over baseball men! ;D

Thank all of you for your kind words and good wishes!
Will you have to buy all new software? (ie, if you had excel on Windows, do you now have to re-buy, and how do you convert 'stuff' from Windows to Mac?)
My iMac came with AppleWorks, which is the Mac equivalent of MS Office. Also, my school offers MS Office (for Windows or Mac) to all students for free.
psst...what exactly does a fellowship mean? free?
Well, in my case, the fellowship will pay for a percentage of my tuition. I'm not required to perform any duties except to maintain a certain GPA.
Hey kid...how old are you????
Um...I'm 36... :-
Regards,
John

John...switching to a different OS plus going for more education....
YOU GO!!!!!
Patti
-
Jennifer, got to agree with you about darling Jim Palmer.
My God, I never thought I would spend so much time examining a sports related ad! As I recall it, that magazine found its way into my boudoir and safely tucked away between the sheets.
Dear Jim, and his famous bat... those were the days...
I'd ask the MB if he has a scan of that ad tucked away in his archives, but SADLY it isn't DS related.
Have you heard about those soap commercials with Don Briscoe in the shower??? that THUD you heard was my SWOON.

Hey kid...how old are you????
Um...I'm 36... :-
Good going, John. Glad to learn I'm not the only "older" person returning to a full-time student life. Although in my case, I'm even ever-so-slightly older than you! ;D
-
Have you heard about those soap commercials with Don Briscoe in the shower??? that THUD you heard was my SWOON.
Oh? I could have sworn that thud sounded like the dropping of a bar of soap. Silly me.
-
Congratulations on this wonderful achievment!!
I wish you all the very best of luck with this and may you have years of success ahead!

John...have you started yet?
