Prospect Park indefinitely shelves One Life to Live, AMC set to return (http://soapcentral.com/soapcentral/news/2013/0903-amc_oltl.php)
-
Sigh!!
I'd like to think that this will all be resolved quickly and efficiently but I'm not overly optimistic.
-
I, unfortunately, also agree that this won't 'go away' quietly.
I think it'll be the last we see of OLTL....:(
Patti
-
I'm not optimistic, either. I subscribed to Hulu+ in April so I could watch OLTL on my TV. I cancelled that subscription today. I hope others do, too, and maybe a message will be sent. But I doubt it. [ghost_sad]
-
In order for them to get the message, you have to tell them why you cancelled the service.
I wonder if hiding behind the lawsuit is a face saving measure? When the two shows aired on OWN this summer, AMC's ratings were high, One Life's were not.

Boo!!
[devil2]
Patti, who also doesn't have Me-TV (cuz I get stuck w/crappy SATTELITE).
-
Maybe it isn't over yet. I spoke with Jerry ver Doren (Clint Buchanan) yesterday and he seemed to feel that the Prospect Park/ABC lawsuit was a nuisance suit that could be resolved out of court. He felt that production could resume by the end of the year.
Fingers crossed!
-
Honestly, unless I missed something along the way, I don't understand how ABC thinks they even have a leg to stand on when they're the ones that killed off OLTL characters that were just on loan to them by Prospect Park. Yes, at the time Prospect Park wasn't moving ahead with bringing OLTL back, but Prospect Park still owned the characters, ABC didn't. At the very least, ABC should have approached Prospect Park about killing off the characters. But apparently they didn't.
-
Why does it matter if they were killed off? It's another show, another company, another universe. Just ignore it or make up a "twin" plot. It's been done before.
-
i'm not following this little saga too much but since ABC is the one that decided to cancel these series what on earth use do they have for those characters? why do they care?
ABC should just get out of this and focus on it's own programming.

Establish that it was their parrallel time counterparts who died, or have a mad scientist resurrect their bodies!

i'm not sure what this means but I just read that an AMC actor named Thorsten Kaye who was apparently a key player has defected to 'the bold and the beautiful'...
the pivotal role of "Ridge Forrester" has been recast as the actor who originated the part since the series' premier departed.
-
sorry I cannot post a link but I recently read that both of CBSs daytime soaps, 'the young and the restless' and 'the bold and the beautiful', have had large ratings increases in in recent months...
I wonder if perhaps ABC ever regrets it's very rash decision to cancel most of it's remaining soaps. [hall_huh]

All the soaps have had large ratings increases this past year.
One Life ratings were good and rising at the end of the ABC run. Brian Frons, then head of ABC Daytime, was out to destroy the soap genre, come hell or high water.
He "resigned" right after One Life left ABC and hasn't been heard from since.

Big announcement RE: both shows coming Friday the 8th.

Big announcement RE: both shows coming Friday the 8th.
What's interesting about that is there are all sorts of rumors about a big announcement coming on Friday from Prospect Park, but PP itself has not formally indicated that they actually are making an announcement. At least not according to the reports I've seen. But what is really interesting is that soapcentral.com is reporting that they've been told that AMC's staffers have already been informed that there will not be a second season of the show. And considering AMC was supposed to begin production in August but never did - then they were to begin in October but never did - there might be some truth in that report. But I suppose the public will never really know for sure what is happening until PP does indeed make an announcement.
-
These shows were horribly mishandled. small consolation that Brian Frons has been all but blacklisted from the industry.
The creep intentionally set out to destroy two iconic shows that had a lot of life left in them.
-
I was in line buying groceries today, when I noticed the small magazine named, "CBS Soaps".
[hall2_cool] whatev....Patti
-
The magazine is CBS Soaps in Depth. Its companion magazine ABC Soaps in Depth is the magazine that ran my picture last year.
-
with only four soaps left on the air and the publishing industry in turmoil i'm not sure how any of those old "soap weeklies" are still on the shelves. [hall2_huh]
I've seen the reports on AMC in recent days and it really broke my heart. for all of those actors and production people to have been lead to believe they were being given a another chance and to have that taken away again is really sad. [hall2_embarrassed]

No statement made on AMC's future, but star is "disappointed yet again" (http://soapcentral.com/amc/news/2013/1109-amc_announcement.php)
-
why did they even bother?

No statement made on AMC's future, but star is "disappointed yet again" (http://soapcentral.com/amc/news/2013/1109-amc_announcement.php)
Since posting that link, the title of the article has been changed to:
"No official statement, but AMC star says show's been canceled"
And this has been added:
Morgan later went on to clarify her initial posts.
"Yea, we've been canceled," Morgan stated. "My manager ws given the news that we were officially done by [Prospect Park's] lawyer..."
-
I wouldn't be too impressed with the recent soap "resurgence" either. Current top rated show Y & R gets a rating far lower than what DS got during it's pre-Barnabas/pre-Phoenix era.
The day will come, in our lifetimes, when You Tube clips & DS DVDs are all that's left of daytime dramas.

Prospect Park closes the book on All My Children and One Life to Live (http://soapcentral.com/soapcentral/news/2013/1111-amc_oltl.php)

This is a fascinating turn - especially if they can prove their allegations:
Soaps Producer Ramps Up ABC Lawsuit: 'Mega Soap' Fraud Scheme Alleged
New legal papers allege that ABC schemed to sign secret deals with soap opera actors and frustrate the relaunch of "One Life to Live" and "All My Children." (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/soaps-producer-ramps-up-abc-655678)
-
OMG! I wonder if this means the shows might see a third act?
-
www.deadline.com/2014/02/abc-prospect-park-lawsuit-one-life-to-live-all-my-children/
-
Well, that ruling doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
-
I wonder if PP still wants to produce the shows?
But would the cast return for round three after getting burned twice?
-
At this stage it is probably more about monies lost and ego.
