Title: How bizarre!-- SciFi repeated an episode
Post by: Midnite on September 02, 2003, 04:22:27 PM
Did anyone else watching DS on SciFi this morning see a repeat of last week's final episode?

Okay... as the credits rolled for #1087 my screen went blue and I thought perhaps SciFi was fixing the mistake.  But no, next came what should have been today's 1st episode.  Or maybe I'm imagining things-- can anyone confirm that an ep was shown twice in a row?

It was. How odd.

Well, if it's not Stargate, the godawful Scare Tactics or one of those horrible mini-series they push down our throats twice a year, I don't think Sci-Fi much cares what's on their channel the rest of the time.  :P :-X

I just hope they don't try to correct this snafu by skipping an episode to catch up with their schedule.

Thanks for confirming this, dom. Looks like I'll have to redo today's montage...

Although - is there any possibility this mixup was only on the West Coast feed?

Time will tell...

Bernie replied on the Shadows list that he saw the same thing on the East coast.

OK, great. Well, not great - but you know what I mean. ;)

I checked the Sci Fi site and no episodes will be skipped. They list episode #861 (#1087) on both the schedule for August 29thth & September 2nd. Weird.

THE BAD NEWS...
Sci Fi is pre-empting DS during most of October...it's only airing on October 13th & October 20th - 30th, according to their online schedule. It's also being pre-empted on the 31st. Various daily marathons are airing in it's time slot during the rest of October.

I'm in the Atlanta area, and I thought that I had rewound my tape too far!  Glad to know that it was the same old program!  Thanks[hello] :D

Well, Halloween is no surprise because Sci-Fi has pre-empted DS at least three other times on Halloween. But the marathons during the first half of October are somewhat surprising. That's something they generally do during school vacations. But there are no school breaks during the first half of October, except on Columbus Day - and DS is actually on THAT day. Go figure...

If I remember correctly, back in the early days Sci Fi routinely pre-empted blocks of programming just to show old horror flicks during the month of October.

I always thought that was the best stuff they showed on the station, back then.

Now they're probably planning to show blocks of their self-produced TV movies.

Spare us.  ::)

Outer Limits, Hercules, and Farscape marathons.

NO!!!!!! ; >:( That sux! Cuz by then we'll probably be in the climax of the 1840 storyline. C'mon Sci FI, don't do this to us!! :'( :'( :'(

If Sci-Fi sticks to the posted schedule (which I suppose we can assume they will) September 30th's second episode will only be #1128, which in real time is less than a month into 1840. ;) The first 1840 episode (#1110) will run on September 17th.

This happened once before in 1994, when they showed the episode where Carolyn identifies the body of her friend Donna Friedlander at the sheriffs office, who is holding Chris under suspicion twice on the same day.

I wonder if there was a method to SciFi's madness...

There are 1225 episodes of Dark Shadows, an odd number.  Showing two each per day dictates that when the run of the show ends, on the last day there would only be one episode left unaired.

Maybe SciFi doubled up on 1087 so that this won't happen, and even on the last day they'll be able to air two eps.  :-

Possibly - by repeating episode #1087, they had 154 episodes left in this run. But when DS ended its '92-'97 run in September '97, the last two episodes they ran were #1245 and #1.

Considering that repeating episode #1087 was planned ahead of time, Sci-Fi obviously has something in mind. One thing they definitely weren't trying to do, though, was end this run at the end of this year. With all the pre-emptions in October, there aren't enough weekdays left in the year - even if they never pre-empt DS once in either November or December (which is something that's highly unlikely, anyway).
