Title: Night of the Iguana on TCM
Post by: MsCriseyde on July 24, 2003, 04:36:35 AM
Didn't see this on the calendar already, but it's probably been mentioned on here somewhere.

TCM will be airing Night of the Iguana with Grayson Hall's Oscar-nominated performance on Thursday, July 31, at 6:00pm ET.

You're correct, it was already mentioned. But a movie of this caliber is worth mentioning again (it's in my top five favorite films of all time) IMHO. I'm sure this has been asked before as well; Does anyone know if Grayson attended the Academy Awards presentation the year she was nominated? Has she ever discussed in print how she felt about being nominated? Would love to know her reaction to the whole thang.

Great film, great role...

TNOTI is one of those addictive movies.  If I come across it on TV, I end up watching the rest of it, regardless of what point in the film I discover it.

IIRC, she did not attend the ceremonies, and I believe she once remarked that she felt she did not have a chance of winning.

I'm sure Gothick could provide more details... :)

Regards,

John

Grayson did attend the Oscars in '65.  She was in town anyway doing that Disney flick.  She got around a lot that year--went to Italy for the Spoleto Festival in the Summer and was back in LA in Sept. to make "Back to Back," that thing with Shelley Winters and Jack Hawkins, that maddeningly has failed to surface.  It was shown in the Bob Hope Chrysler Theatre series.

I've been wanting to screen the 1965 Oscarcast to see whether she made it on camera, but have yet to track down a tape of same.  I thought it was in the Museum of TV and Radio but they've been too busy addng more episodes of Seinfeld and Cheers to their viewing collections to bother with such trivia as the Oscarcasts (can you hear me grinding my teeth?)

Like I'm going to fly to LA or NY to watch episodes of shows that I can see at least 4 times a day thanks to the infinite variety of programming offered to me by my cable company.  ;)

Who did win the supporting actress Oscar that year?

According to www.oscar.com (http://www.oscar.com) it was Lila Kedrova for "Zorba the Greek".

I'll answer this one, because hopefully Steve is out partying. Grayson appeared as the kidnapped bank teller in "That Darn Cat" starring Hayley Mills. It was a very different part for her and we can really see her lovely, expressive eyes, because for much of the film her mouth is covered by a gag.  :o

Funny, you should mention "That Darn Cat".  I happened upon it airing on The Hallmark Channel this morning.  O.K. I love those old Disney movies that I grow up on.  It really had a good cast.  Grayson looked much better without all the eye make up the DS people decorated her with.  It really was an entertaining movie.

It is amazing when you see her on other things, NOTI, Darn Cat or Gargoyles. . her eyes look so big and open .. . after the eyeliner and fake eyelashes of the early 70s. . .its almost as if its a different woman . . .

after the eyeliner and fake eyelashes of the early 70s.

Unfortunately, not all the DS actresses left them behind ...

Wasn't the cats name DC? So, same initials.

And thanks, MB, for the great shots of The Divine One in her only Disney film.   :-*

TCM revised it's schedule to run Bob Hope movies. Hopefully, NOTI will be rescheduled.

[clap] And Bette gets the gold star!!!
I about cracked up everytime Hamey Mills says DC to the cat in that exasperated tone she gets!!!

*sigh* I was already to watch and tape NOTI, very excited since I have yet to catch it!  But....it's a tribute to Bob Hope so I'm 5x5.  There's always next time.

Always, Minja [coolbrows]
