Title: Best two-actor combination?
Post by: Lydia on December 27, 2012, 06:14:33 AM
I'm sure I've said more than once that I always love scenes between Kathryn Leigh Scott and Grayson Hall.  For me, they are the perfect combination of sweet and salty.  Does anybody else have any favorite combinations of actors?  I.e. a pair of actors where, whatever the storyline, whatever the characters they are playing, you get a special joy out of their scenes together?

Louis Edmonds and Joan Bennett.  Nancy Barrett and Joan Bennett.

Grayson and Humbert.

Thayer and just about anybody...

The real magic of DS is in those two character scenes, although in certain cases an ensemble piece, such as Judith confronting her brothers with the will in 1897, shows how superbly these seasoned pros worked together.

Don't worry, I think everyone takes that combo for granted, the same way we all know that chocolate is the base of the food pyramid.

IluvBarnabas,

Yes, exactly!!!  It was great fun to see Barnabas and Julia frequently speculating about what would be the next horrific threat against everyone at Collinwood and in Collinsport. [santa_thumb]

But, Bob_the_Bartender and IluvBarnabas, here's my question: is it Jonathan Frid and Grayson Hall whom you like seeing together, or is it Barnabas and Julia?  After watching Frid and Hall together in a PT 1841 episode, I commented:
The scene between Bramwell and Julia was fun.  However well Frid and Hall play their roles, it is simply not possible to forget that these are the same actors who played Julia Hoffman and Barnabas, so when Bramwell calls Julia his cousin, it's startling.
But I didn't say anything like, “They’re great together no matter who it is that they're playing!”

Watching 1897 recently I grew to love every scene that combined Selby with HAA.  I could watch Quentin and Evan all day without getting bored.  Another great duo was Jonathan Frid and Nancy Barret.

The Barnabas Collins, Julia Hoffman relationship was the Heart & Soul of Dark Shadows.  Storylines and other combinations would come and go, but when Barnabas and Julia "walked into television history" the show was doomed.

Thayer and Lara have struck me recently.

Any of Thayer's characters are always at odds with Angelique of course! Either Ben Stokes or Petofi were trying to scheme against her the best they could...

Recently watched the Dream Curse stuff, and T. Elliot was trying his best to thwart Angelique by
even going into the dream to confront her!
That was an awesome moment for sure.
