Title: HOFFMANIA!!!
Post by: Gothick on June 06, 2003, 08:02:47 PM
Well, I would have thought that by now, one of my fellow Hall-o-holics would have duly noted the arrival of one of my absolute favorite characters on DS:

Schlachthaus Kommandant HOFFMAN!

aber ja!

Every time I watch these shows again, I'm so grateful to the DS gods (whichever ones dreamed up this idea) for giving us the chance to see Grayson playing something with such understated restraint.

As Hoffman, she is nothing less than "excruciatingly good" as Barbara Steele once stated of Grayson's work on the series.

I believe that a taste of Louis Edmonds' catlike characterization of PT Roger is coming up next week.  Can't wait!  I just adore the scene where he comments to Alexis that speaking of Angelique and Maggie in the same breath is like "comparing a sable to a mouse."  A wonderful line, wonderfully delivered by Big Lou.

Though I'm not currently watching (I've got these shows on MPI tapes), I have to agree that PT Hoffman is one of my favorites!!  It's interesting to compare Grayson's PT Hoffman with her Carlotta in NODS.  Both are based on Mrs. Danvers in Rebecca (of course, the wonderful Judith Anderson performance stands out in my mind.)  I find Carlotta more in tune with Ms. Anderson's performance.  Hoffman seems less "crazy" obsessive about her mistress.

Just my thoughts.

Steve...can you say what/where this comment was made (it sounds delicious).

Thanks,

Patti

I don't really remember much about this storyline but from the little I've seen so far it looks like Julia is doing a great job at keeping the whole house in line!   Especially when she was telling Liz to leave Angelique's things alone!   This looks like it's going to be a good one and Im really looking forward to it!
(glad the Leviathans are finally almost over)

Me too Cassandra,  I say good riddens to the leviathans!!

You'll enjoy the next storyline much better.  It's like seeing everyone in a different light sort to say,  no one is like you remember them to be. ;)

The Leviathans could have been great...ALAS....I simply adore HOFFMAN and love PT.  I love the rich colors and the fabulous storyline.  I think the quote from Barbara Steeel about Grayson came from the 1991 DS resurrected book.  I cannot be sure.  However, one thing I am sure of is the fact that BS said GH was "excruciatingly good" in HODS!
