I've just installed this mod for SE. Here's the explanation that accompanied it:
This mod improves upon the IM system found in YaBB SE 1.5.1. The following are a few of its features:
- IM's are now viewed by clicking a link, you don't see them all when you load the inbox or outbox
- images show whether the message has been read by you or not and if you have replied(inbox), and if the person you sent it to has read it yet(outbox)
- added a backup box that allows you to save messages
- you can now limit members to a certain number of IM's,
admin and global mod accounts are still unlimited
- if the e-mail notification setting is turned off users will not be able to set e-mail notification for IM's
- if a member is over their IM limit they can no longer send messages(outbox full), or no longer receive messages (inbox full)
- when sending a message you can select to not write a copy to your outbox
- the row is highlighted when you select the checkbox for a particular IM
- you can select the default ordering of messages, or re-order
them on the fly using either the time, subject, or name values[/list][/b]
-
This looks helpful. I have a tendancy to forget IM's the instant I write them and seem to be checking constantly to see if I have or have not sent/read/deleted things.
The only things I don't see being particularly useful are:
- added a backup box that allows you to save messages
[/b]
You don't really mean to have us piling up IM's in a backup box, do you?
- You can select the default ordering of messages, or re-order them on the fly using either the time, subject, or name values
[/b]
Since we can't keep more than 10 messages, how much 'ordering' do we need to do?
Otherwise.....looks like an honest-to-goodness improvement!! ;)

Are you forgetting about a certain IM containing a certain montage? ;)
But actually, the backup box is limited to the same amount of IMs as the in- and outboxes are.

The limit isn't set to 10 any longer - and possibly won't be set at all once we get around to making the final move from this interim host. :)
The explanation of that feature is a bit misleading, anyway, because it makes it sound as if individual users can select their own default order but, in fact, only Administrators can set it and that setting is the same for everyone. (I just set it to descending by date, newest to oldest, which seems the most useful.) Users can only "re-order them on the fly" - but that order only lasts while you're still in a particular section. Once you leave and come back again, the sort order reverts back to the default.
Otherwise.....looks like an honest-to-goodness improvement!! ;)
I'm glad you approve. [aprvg]

No, dear....I leave it up whenever I can....4 shots in one montage...sigh!
Otherwise.....looks like an honest-to-goodness improvement!! ;)

Even my heaps of praise come out snarky, don't they? [smrtasb]

That's good news about the Instant Messaging update.
Now when do I get access to Instant Massaging? I'd like my masseur to be my height, not too built, and into fronttage please.

Funny how often I get this urge to copy your posts into "BabbleFish".... just to see what the translation looks like! ???
(Don't bother....I KNOW what it means.....snort) [lghy]

Okay Pepe.....I've formally embraced the new Advanced IM Feature by putting my.....special montage.....in the Backup Box.
When I write to you in hysterics 3 days from now, that I've lost the thing, kindly remind me where I put it.
