OK, it was decided an episode or two back that the dogs that were howling were real dogs, sensing something beyond human perception, correct?  So today we're to decide that these real, ordinary dogs, sensed a frenzied Barnabas at the French doors to Maggie's room, and were right there pushing against it?  And was Barnabas there too?  In human form, not bat form?  i sort of like the idea of the bat form egging them on.

Sam has painted Barnabas's mouth into the portrait, and there's no sign of fangs.  Josette missed a golden opportunity there.

Poor Willie gets yet another beating. But he never, ever admits that he was the one who made the phone call. I think his will power is in direct proportion to his compassion. Go Willie!

And he has a tough assignment--he has to keep Jason from "asking his stupid questions." When Willie says he doesn't know how, Barnabas replies loftily, I consider the problem entirely yours.

Probably hoping to make at least a small human contact, Willie expresses his concern to Sam by saying, I heard your daughter is ill! Sam yells at him not to mention her name--but he didn't, still ashamed, I think. Sam has no way of knowing what he owes Willie.

The dog hurling itself against the door--a cool and scary touch. But if Barn can take the shape of a bat, why can't he appear as a dog? Maybe that's him throwing himself against the door out of sheer bloodlust.

But we've seen Barnabas hearing the dogs howling, too.  And it seemed like more than one dog at the door.  I suppose, however, neither objection really eliminates the possibility of Barnabas appearing as a dog.  Still, if the writers thought he could do that, then surely we'd have seen it happening at other times.  On the other hand, the writers don't know everything, even if they think they do.

Bottom line: Logic has nothing to do with it.  I don't think Barnabas turned into a dog.  Or a pack of dogs.  Or the Dog Star.  Or doggerel.

Said without having seen episode--   Vampires are not supposed to have a power that allows them to change into whatever form they want. They specifically become bats because that's part of what they are.   I'll guess they can only turn into vampire bats, and not any other kind.

Still, vampires are supposed to be able to become wolves, too, though that doesn't come up on DS.   They were inventing their own vampire lore though, right at this point.   Someone may have thrown in Barnabas becoming an unseen wolf at the door.   A regular dog, no.

All very true, guys. I was going on my very hazy memories of Bram Stoker when I posted.

Barnabas warns Willie to get Jason off his back. Vickie is again babysitting Maggie. Maggie is afraid on this night and then the dogs scare Vickie where she has decided calling Burke is the answer. Not the police, nor even animal control, or Joe. A couple dates and Burke is foremost in her mind. Then the door slams shut and Vickie is once again on the outside.

Poor Frank Garner, moping by the silent phone, all ready to spring into action and help somehow, but the phone just goes on not ringing...
