Last night I was reading about plans to do a new series of The Munsters on one of the major networks. This time around, it sounds as if the series is going to be a full-on horror/drama series rather than a comedy. The official blurb says that Herman's artificially assembled body is starting to rot and he needs to find a living human "donor" for a new heart. Sounds tasty, doesn't it? What surprised me is this time around, Eddie is described as a "child werewolf" which I definitely don't recall being part of the original scenario. Makes me wonder if they're going to grab anything not nailed down from the 2012 Depp Shadows movie for this series.
I won't be watching, but no doubt I will be reading at least some of the reviews if this makes it to the airwaves.

btw, the new series is to be called 1313 Mockingbird Lane (the Munsters' address in the old show).
I really wish they would leave these things alone...

I shudder to think what they might do with poor Marilyn.

I agree. I too fear this new Munsters series. Why even call it The Munsters?
With Dark Shadows, there were some recognizable things, but this doesn't even sound close to the original concept.
-
All previous attempts to remake The Munsters miserably failed. That should tell them something. The show had a unique quality of combining the "monstrous" with the "mundane" of mid-sixties suburban life. It can't be recaptured.
Lilly to Grandpa, when he wanted to turn himself into a wolf: "Remember the last time? You ended up in Kansas City with that police dog."
Herman to Lilly when she insists, that with him as the father, it's time for him to explain the birds and the bees to Eddie: "Donna Reed always handles these things on her show, you know."

Basing something on an old show is just the way to sell your series and get it made. Nobody really cares about these remake series. They did a Munsters remake series in the 90s, I think it was, and a few people got to work in show business for a few months.

I heard about this several months back, and at first I didn't know what to think. But then I saw concept drawings for the project , and they definitely got me intrigued. And then I learned that Bryan Fuller is behind it, and that got me even more intrigued because I was a HUGE fan of both Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls (I even had a Wonderfalls based avatar at one time, which can been seen in this post here:
New Default Theme
). So, if anyone can work a fresh approach, it's Fuller, and I'll definitely give it a look.

Garibaldi as Herman??!! Wait no, wrong guy. Garibaldi from Babylon 5 would make a great Herman, though.

I heard about this awhile back. The Munsters as a drama and Dark Shadows as a comedy... I do believe we have officially passed through the doorway into Parallel Time. [ghost_tongue]
As for Eddie, IIRC he was always a little werewolf. They never showed him in full-on wolfboy form in the 60s show but I do believe they referred to him as a werewolf. In the 90s TV movie remake versions, we saw him in wolf form.

If Cheyenne Jackson is doing an episode then I will definitely have to watch that episode at least. I've been a fan of his since Xanadu.

And there is talk that if the airing of the pilot on October 26th does well as a Halloween special, there's still a chance it may go to series.

Did anyone watch this? What did you think? I caught it last night On Demand. I was really impressed and I was very surprised. I expected not to like it at all.
There wasn't much to complain about (IMO). The special effects were fantastic, and all the acting was very good. I was only slightly unimpressed/disappointed with the Marilyn character and Izzard's Grandpa was a little hard to look at, but that remedied itself toward the end of the show.
I thought the reimagining worked extremely well. I would definitely watch it if it went to series.
-
I watched it and I really liked it as well. And it did fairly well in the ratings for a Friday night. But I haven't heard a peep about it moving forward beyond that showing of the pilot...
-
I watched it too, and thought it was much better than I was expecting it to be. I'm not 100% sold on it, but would be willing to watch it to see if it could find its footing. But I guess they'd have to show more episodes for that to happen [santa_grin]
Kinda off-off topic, but as a little tidbit, I saw a photo recently of Johnny Depp in Tonto attire posing with a kid that looked awfully familiar, named Mason Cook. I checked IMDb and sure enough it's the same kid who played Eddie Munster on this pilot. So he's going to be in The Lone Ranger, too. Kinda creepy looking, which of course is a plus for this show [santa_cheesy]
