Title: Adam at 6 A.M. *now has screen caps*
Post by: Gothick on March 26, 2003, 07:53:24 PM
Have been meaning to note that Grayson got a one month vacation during this period of DS (I gather that she told them that if Jonathan was getting one, she needed one as well!)  Part of the time was spent working on a little known feature film, Adam at 6 A. M.  Below I've pasted in the review of the movie I wrote for IMDB. Even though Grayson's scenes are few and far between, it's worth seeing her in action here.

Gothick

The hard life of Mikey Douglas--an early chapter

This is a very early Michael (or as he was popularly known then, Mikey) Douglas vehicle. He plays a disillusioned college professor of the late Sixties (there seem to have been so many of them scurrying about in those days!) who drops out of his successful, stressful life in the big city to go in a search for his roots in a not-so-idyllic midwestern small town. The story plods along, showing his courtship of a rather status-proud Junior Miss type whose Mom (wonderfully etched by Louise Latham) is the town hairdresser, and his adventures in serious male bonding with Joe Don Baker and other flannel clad logger types. Grayson Hall has an excellent cameo role as his aunt, and gets to administer a deft put-down of Douglas' masculine vanity towards the end. In some ways the last 30 seconds is the best part of the movie. Overall not at all a bad effort. To quote Maggie Smith in a movie that is much more suitable to this writer's temperament, "For those who like that sort of thing, that is the sort of thing that they like." I did make liberal use of the fast forward button in viewing "Adam at Six A. M."

In these frightening and uncertain times, it's nice to know that we Graysonphiles can count on Gothick to provide us with fun facts about our fave rave actress.

ADAM AT 6 A.M. tends to pop up on Channel 48 in Philadelphia, for those in the area.

BTW, is this film on home video?

Thanks!

John

It used to be. Don't know if it is currently in-print or not, but it pops up consistently on Ebay.

I've always loved the opening shot of Grayson, fiddling with her gloves.

Grayson can do more with a kleenex than most
actors can do with a ream of dialogue. ;)

Inez introduces Adam to the family.

Inez and Mrs. Hopper (Louise Latham) remark at what a "cute" couple Adam and Mrs. Hopper's daughter, Jerri Jo, make.

Inez congratulates Adam on his engagement to Jerri Jo, while her husband Van (Dana Elcar - DS' Shefiff Patterson) looks on.

Oooo!!  Interesting pictures.  Thanks for posting these, MB.  I wouldn't mind seeing the film either.

(Michael Douglas doesn't look to shabby.  Hmm...not
bad....not bad at all.)

And he looks the same today! A tighter and shinier face but you have to look good for your SYT. Maybe Julia convinced him to have CDT paint his picture so CZ-J won't know who she really married.

Great screencaps MB - muchos gracias!  Would love to see Grayson in this flick.  And the addition of Dana "Sherrif Patterson" Elcar to the proceedings makes it even more fabulous.

You're right Carol, Michael Douglas really doesn't seem to have changed much from those days - just a tighter and shinier face, LOL!  I'd forgotten what a babe he used to be back then - I had a huge crush on him when I was a kid!   ;D

Darling Mysterioso, thanks for these great photos!  Love Grayson's smiles.  Mikey don't look bad, I must say.  A graduate from the Roger Davis school of squinting thespianism (tm).

IIRC, Dana Elcar has this great scene where he's talking about the movie, the Graduate, and complains that it just doesn't add up to a hill of beans.

I would love to hear Mikey's stories about working with Grayson.

Yes, so now Catherine Zeta Jones has two shiny little men to improve her career prospects and bank balance ;)
