Breakout Stars of 2011 - Jessica Chastain, The Help, The Debt, Take Shelter and Tree of Life (http://www.tvguide.com/special/best-of-year-2011/PhotoGallery/Best-Year-Breakout-1040041)
Yes, I would say she definitely broke out in a big way this year. [santa_wink]

I participate on an Oscar/Award-watching site, and Jessica is a huge topic of conversation this year. Everyone agrees she is having a great year and has done really great work in all these high-visibility films. Besides these 3, she's also in at least 2 others: The Debt and Coriolanus (I had to look that last one up for spelling!) (Edited to add- oops, the blurb says she was in 6 films- sorry but I don't recall the 6th one! [santa_cheesy] ) There is a discussion over which film(s) she might be nominated for, and it seems like most of the precursor award nominations so far have been for The Help. I didn't see that, but I saw The Tree of Life and Take Shelter. In Tree, she was quite good as a sweet and loving mom, but I thought Take Shelter was the more demanding and more impressive performance. I hope she gets an Oscar nomination and even a win for any of these performances! More importantly, I hope she continues to get great roles!
And maybe someday I'll actually get to see her as Carolyn [santa_wink]

^^^ According to the site I mentioned above, her 6th film was Texas Killing Fields. Hmm, I'm not familiar with that one.
-
Texas Killing Fields is the one that Chloe Moretz is also in:
the film stars two actresses who have taken on the persona of our beloved Carolyn Stoddard: Jessica Chastain, from the '04 pilot, and Chole Moretz, from the Depp/DS film.

Thanks MB! Now I'm even more embarrassed that it doesn't ring a bell :)

Actually, I don't believe the film got a very wide release (I know it never played anywhere near me). So, that combined with a possibility that you might have missed the topic I linked to could easily explain why you're not familiar with it. [santa_wink]
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the film once it comes out on DVD/Blu-ray on January 31st.
