Now that I think about it, it's too dissimilar to Nancy Barrett's equally cheesy blonde wig on The Doctors a few years later.

From an article that appeared in TV Guide back then, the actress who had played the part previously had short hair and that Nancy thought that the shorter style seemed more appropriate for a medical show.. A compromise was reached. Nancy continued to wear the wig at the nurses station but went wigless elsewhere.  Oddly, when Nancy left The Doctors, her replacement just used her own hair
