Title: Reputed 'nude' photo of Grayson on ebay
Post by: Julia99 on November 10, 2002, 06:09:07 AM
I hope no one here actually bid on it. . she wasn't nude.  I checked out the theatrical publication referenced on the ebay ad at the library today.  Contrary to what was listed on ebay, Grayson was in FULL COSTUME in the 1971 play, The Screens.  The uh ahm. . assets on display are styrofoam. . .not her.  The pins and knitting needles sticking out of the uh ahh assets should be clue enough.

You can see the photo for FREE on my little site below:

That picture is a royal hoot.  Every time I see it I wonder just WHAT that play was really like.  I'd love to be able to travel back in time and see those plays she was in.  Now, if I just had a set of those I Ching wands at my disposal....   :) Dawn

Anyone who might be interested in purchasing a copy of this issue of After Dark might be interested that it's currently available on eBay for $4.80. Check out:

At the moment, the auction has 2 days, 9 hours to go...

I sorta like the picture.  It's like "Our Julia" is saying  "Yeah, I know there strofoam, but at least I  had the courage and got on the stage and let everybody see me."  It's like "I Am Woman...hear me roar"  Go Julia![smrtasy]

Well, I certainly didn't bid on it, but aren't you assuming that the only reason someone would care to purchase this is because it's a purportedly nude photo? :)

Maybe theatre buffs would be interested . . .

Thanks for posting this here, Julia.  Grayson looks DIVINE, a glam avatar of the Crone Goddess.  From what I can recall of my reading of the play, Grayson's role was that of Warda, Queen of the Whores.  It's a very long play and for about 2 hours she wasn't even on stage.  In the earlier part of the play, the village women impale her with their knitting needles.  This picture is Warda returning as a ghost to harangue the audience in a dramatic sequence ... very Dark Shadows if DS had ever been R rated!

GH's costume is by Willa Kim, who I believe is a Tony winnner, and the play was translated and directed by Minos Volonakis, who instantly became Grayson's favorite director after this experience of working with him.  She and Matt later visited him in Greece.

To say The Screens is a difficult play is putting it mildly. I was discussing a recent Canadian production of it with a couple of friends who attended, and they mentioned that people started leaving the theatre about half an hour into the play.  I said "Oh, because it was so shocking?" and Claude said, "No because it was BORING."  Apparently the topical political references to the Algerian crisis and French colonialism haven't aged well...

Yeah right Lucia  :P. . .i saw a lot of email traffic about it due to the purported nudie pixs.  . . But i actually did enjoy spending an afternoon reading the magazine (1968-1988 ).  It was  a fun and often enlightening romp through our past. . .

Yes, and I would be willing to bet that few if any women (who have never visited a plastic surgeon) have anything quite that perky to display by the time they hit a "certain age".  [heh]

No offense to Grayson but, as most of us know, gravity may keep your feet on the ground but it is NOT your friend. [sick]

FYI, creating supposedly "Nude" photos of celebrities is a million dollar business and very hard to contest for a celebrity.  I found how that kind of thing is done taking some advanced website classes.  And no, it was not a required exercise.;)

For those who care, Grayson does appear nude from the backside in a movie called "End of the Road".  This was made in 1970, and in the scene she tries to seduce Stacy Keach.  Believe me it will make you cringe!

Hi Doombuggy,

Just to be clear .... GH's BACK is nude in this scene, but you don't see the derriere of the Divine One.  You do get to see just how freckled she was!

I think Grayson's TONGUE is the most amazing thing about this scene.

Also, the movie was filmed in 1968.  The director was a former film editor and he spent one year editing his first movie.  Sadly, two of Grayson's scenes got left on the cutting room floor, and the director is now dead, so ...

Okay Gothick, now you've piqued my curiousity! Exactly WHAT does Grayson Hall do with her tongue in this movie?

Cassandra, darling, Grayson's tongue action in that film would scorch this site right off the Internet!

I love her 2 (or is it 3) minutes of screen time in this film, especially when she says the line "Veddy Noel Coward."

I wonder whether Stacey Keach has any memory at all of this movie?  It was filmed in Great Barrington, right here in hysterical Massachusetts.

Gothick,

My apologies for my faulty memory of that scene. Yes, all you see is her backside and she is wearing some sort of blue bikini.  I just checked my clip of that scene. As for her tongue action on Stacy Keach's neck, it's pretty PG-13 rated if you ask me. No more graphic than Ben Cross sexually biting Barbara Blackburn in the 91 Dark Shadows.

Yes, Doombuggy, but it's GRAYSON HALL.

That adds a megawatt level to the shcok value to those of us who grew up thinking of Dr. Julia Hoffman as our favorite eccentric aunt next door.

Yes, Gothick that is true, I never looked at it that way!
Did you ever see a movie called "Savages" from 1971. Christopher Pennock and Thayer David appear together in several scenes almost unclothed!

Well . .all you see is her bare back. . . i'm sure the crew saw more than that. . . it is a rather difficult scene 'cuz of Stacey's weirdo performance, her very pointy (!) tongue and his hands down her bikini bottoms. . .as for "tries".  .she does succeed.  There were other scenes where he came back for more but that ended up on the cutting room floor.  Which is ironic to me that they cut sex but kept that very bizzarro opening scene with James Earl Jones strutting around catatonic Keach . .it was waaaay too long.
