I (of course) was watching DS today, and there was Dirk Wilkins. And, you know, I dislike him very, very much. But, it had occured to me, that not to long ago, I also disliked Burke Devlin. But for different reasons.
Burke Devlin. He just thinks that he has to know everything. Bargeing into someone house, demanding to know whats going on here, and then, telling the person that he will be back. I like to see him do that in my house. I don't have a gun, but I would get one (probably at Walmart), and shoot Burke Devlin with it. [uzi] Rapture. [spin]
Dirk Wilkins aka Peter Bradford and Jeff Clark. I just don't like him. He maules the female and yells, and I mean really yells, at the men. I mean even his sister, who had seen Chris Jennings turn into a werewolf, gets this mauling from him. And, guess what?, she can't even talk or walk. So she has to sit there and take it. Men on the other hand, ya gotta feel sorry for them. He yells at them so much, you would think their ears was going to bleed. That might be okay, at least that wouldn't hear him anymore. He looks like he's going to fight everybody. Who for the love of God, hired him?

Hallie Stokes is the most annoying character as far as I'm concerned. I guess it's that whining voice. She really gets on my nerves. [kaiokn]

he becomes a vampire. After the angry, paranoid, frustrated, scared, stuffy, and/or arrogant nature of his other characters, I've always thought that the over-the-top hyperanimated silliness of Dirk was a refreshing turn. There's one scene in the drawing room where he's carrying on and taunting someone (I've forgotten, but I think it might have been Judith)...his eyes are bulged out and he's got this crazed look on his face, and then suddenly he howls -- awwwoooohhhhh!!!! -- in a high-pitched tone, like he's baying at the moon...it's a riot. :)

I agree with Linda, I think Dirk is a hoot! He is the only Roger Davis character I find remotely watchable. Though I think Diana Millay came close to slapping him a couple of times in their scenes together ...
According to Mr. Davis himself, as reported in one of the MPI DS behind the scenes videos (it might have been the 25th anniversary or the 30th anniversary one I'm not sure), Dan Curtis was very fond of RD and sort of kept him around as a matinee idol type on the series. Given the source, I've always taken these stories with a grain of salt. Generally, if a performer got good fan mail, they were brought back. It could be that Davis had something of a following in illo tempore. He does get profiled a fair amount in 16 and the other magazines, as do Don Briscoe, Chris Pennock, and Mike Stroka. Of course coverage for these guys is far outstripped by the publicity Jonathan Frid and David Selby received.

Whew, a toughie. Anthony George's Burke is just puky. Roger Davis playing any role is an assault on your senses. His acting range is whine-rage. BUT, the worst irritant to me is Adam! I don't blame Robert Rodan, except for playing the petulant brat child role TOO well. I wish he had been able to have a different role, I think he would have been good. But Adam makes me want to break the tv set.

I'm split 50/50 between Hallie Stokes (please someone put HER out of MY misery!) and the 'pukey' Anthony George as Burke Devlin. He looks like he'd have bad breath. :(

Amanda Harris, mewling, hoary eyed slut. She is opportunistic, she has stupid hair, she thought that ugly broach was gorgeous, she whines, she tries to sashay but just ends up looking like a 50 cent whore at the end of a 10 buck evening.
And she sucks.

The character Angelique. I totally and unequivocally despise her. Her antics in 1795 are unredeemable and in 1840 she got what she deserved.

I like Burke, but I do have to agree with you guys
about all Roger Davis characters. (He'd only have
to mess up my hair do once, then he'd be grabbing
himself - - - much lower down! [evily] )
I don't care for Hallie and Amanda for the same
reason, they are both too whiny.

Agree Amanada is the worst I always thought of her as Petofi's revenge on Quentin he put a spell on him to think she was the love of his life! someone should have
taken CDT's paints away after that disaster . then she can't die but has to return as Oliva with the thousand mirrors!(love thyself much)!
Also agree i find dirk the best of all his roles love when he is a vampire and when he is chasing Beth with the doll!

Bravo! [hello] Angelique's undiscriminating and unchecked cruelty always repulsed me, and even though she occasionally put her powers to good use, I could never ignore what a brutal stalker she was at the core.
I also have to concur with sheenasma. Angelique may be a hateful character for doing hateful things, but Amanda Harris is an insult to the species for being such a shallow, worthless whiner. I'm not too crazy about PT Roxanne either.

The character's name was Bruno Hess, and yes, that hair was quite...striking. At least Roger Davis wasn't playing the part. I can just see him accidentally knocking the wig off as he clutches at his hair for the 325th time. ;)

I must admit I do not understand why Carrie/Hally Stokes was ever residing in Collinwood when she had her Father*/Grandfather/Uncle so close by... unless he pleaded with the Collins' to please take that whining child off his hands!
Carrie/Hallie did have the most annoying voice.

Actually, I think I was bothered less by Roxanne herself than I was by Barnabas when he first saw her...there's Snow White lying on a slab in a mausoleum and practically frozen solid to boot, and what's his reaction? "Isn't she beautiful, Julia??? I'm in love!"

When she and Claude North started going on about that knife and the "times they shared." Not a Roxanne fan either (she always sounded vaguely stoned to me), but I don't loathe her the same way I do Amanda, Roger Davis' characters, and Angelique.

No! I don't think I ever have! I did read an article recently though, by Vinnie Loscalzo where he talks about having to wash and set Stroka's hair. LOL
THAT must have been a sight to see -- Stroka walking around the studio in curlers.

Well, ya know what? I DID do something a couple of years ago that had Bruno in it. It was a rather dumb, disjointed storyboard. Below is the excerpt. Oy vey.

Well put ProfStokes, I could never get the romantic angle to Angelique. I was stalked once and I did not find the attention romantic just scary and unwanted.
I agree with your opinion on Amanda Harris and could not have said it better. Roxanne was just an odd choice to put with Barnabas. He came off looking like a leacherous old man.

LOL loved the storyboard.
I dislike:
- Peter Bradford: The first time I saw him I saw he wasn't that great of an actor. I decided I would wait for some improvement . . . still waiting.
- Jeff Clark: The way he treated Vicky was just plain horrible. He says he loves her? He acts like he wants to kill her! I remember a friend and I once wrote a story where Vicky and Carolyn shave Jeff's head while he's sleeping.
- Ned Stuart: The worst Roger Davis character I've seen so far. The way he treats his poor sister is just . . .ugh.
- Dirk Wilkins: I've only seen him in two episodes so far, and I understand he gets better, but right now I dislike him just as much as Jeff.
- Victoria Winters #2: I guess being with Jeff rubbed off on her and she got cosmetic sergery during one of her days off from Collinwood in an effort to be more like Jeff, including getting a shrill voice. Thank god Victoria #3 was a big improvement.
- Adam: His character just annoys me to death. Lord Julia, you should've let Barnabas kill him!! I was glad when Eve came along to torment him.
- Dr. Eric Lang: Overacting, big time. And that tape just kept on playing and playing and playing and playing and playing and playing and playing . . . and playing.

Really feeling the need to weigh back in on this thread - can't believe I left out ANY character portrayed by Roger Davis (but esp. Ned Stuart). He constantly paws all the female characters (yuck), just shamelessly overacts and appears to be, shall we say, over-caffeinated (or something - LOL). Then there's that little thing with the *hair.* ;)
Also not a huge fan of Aunt Abigail - she's such a hateful self-righteous old biddy!

Lord knows, I've always had this thing about the hairdos on DS but Mr. Stroka and all his characters continue to hold the Big Hair title on the show. Which brings me to Roxanne...who I thought I disliked mainly because of her irritating (well, to me [silly] ) Julie Andrews do but now think it is also due to the possiblity that she subconciously reminds me of someone from my long forgotten high school days. Can't decide exactly who that was but I probably still want to slap her (::meow, spit, spit:: ).

You might well have known someone like her, especially the shag hairdo, BUT it isn't a requirement for wanting to slap her! She just seems to invoke that desire, and, yes, Barney's reaction to her makes it that much worse. Yeccchhhh. Amanda/Olivia is just pure nails on a chalk board. I never can quite put my finger on why and how she is as bad as she is. She's very pretty to look at, her voice is awful, but even the awful parts wouldn't seem to add up to being as truly terrible as she is. My least favorite female on the show.
Adam still wins though.
And Michael Stroka was simply hilarious. I couldn't hate his roles, I'm too busy looking at the hair. Amazing, just amazing....

For me, it's the clothes. His clothes in PT 1970 are something else. They're like something out of the revival production of Guys and Dolls, but less restrained. I keep expecting him to burst into song.

Sarah Collins!! I'm glad she died when she did. She almost ruined the 1795 storyline! She belted out her lines like she was some kind of Christina Aguilera. it was so so so so so so so annoying! damn her!

May as well join the Sheenasma bandwagon and say Amanda Harris. She was pretty annoying and pretty much did what ever she could to move up in the world. I hate people that do that. Don't care who they step on or hurt on the way up. Not that I know from experience or anything. ;-)
Oh or Alexander. He was pretty obnoxious too. I saw a kid at a fair one time carrying a box and about 10 people asked him what was in it. After about the 5th time of answering them, he said "A Gwass hoppah!!!!" I looked at my friend (Who, thank god, was a DS fan) and said, OMG it's Alexander! And we burst into giggles.

I have to say all the Leviathan brats...Alexander should have been dangled by his feet from the tower...the first Trask was extremely dislikable but was a well acted role...Leviathan demon children... and people wonder why we are not having kids...

I didn't exactly dislike him but Burke #2 got on my nerves at times....he's constantly barking orders at Vicki...Stop getting so fascinated with the past....Stop hanging around the Old House.....Stop hanging around Barnabas......stop worrying about David and marry me so I can take you away from Collinwood. Dang, he could really be so dang bossy! I could never marry a man like that and can't understand why Vicki would. :(
Again don't really hate Adam, it was his behavior at times that I deplore. Constantly [spoiler]demanding a mate, constantly threatening the Collins family and Vicki.......though in fairness it was Nicholas who put the idea of getting a mate into his head and by any means necessary.[/spoiler]

The most annoying had to be Hallie with her God-awful whine. I dread sitting through that again. I hadn't realized how annoying Amanda Harris was, but yeah, she was such a limp dishrag, and whiny, too.
Then there's 99% of Roger Davis' scenes. I actually liked Peter Bradford the first few times I saw him because he was nice to Vicki, but soon, all too soon, he became the irritant he remained afterwards. It was really funny, though, when Lang was about to cut off his head. (Coicidentally, I had that very thing happen to him in a story.) His voice was so awful, I can't understand how he got voice-over work.
And I got really sick of Adam after he learned to talk. Between him and the Roger Davis characters' shouting and sudden loud exclaimations, my little dog leaves the room when DS comes on.
Oh, and Daphne Harriage was a snooze. Her face was like a porcelain doll--had one expression, and I got really tired of that.
And of course the Leviathan boys, and Jeb Hawkes. Ick, to the lot!
