Title: BACK FROM HALLOWEEN
Post by: VAM on October 21, 2002, 11:34:17 PM
I am back from the event and hope to post some of my photos within the week. Lara Parker, Diana Millay, Terry Crawford , Marie Wallace and Roger Davis were in attendance.  One of the special moments at the event was a surprise birthday celeberation for Lara Parker. At which a cake was rolled in complete with candles and pix of Angelique as the DS fans sang to her. I will share more about the event when I post my photos.

It was great to see you Vam and so many others from the board. I had a great time and was happy the weather held out for Sunday ( a great sunny day at Lyndhurst).
It was great seeing Lara at a smaller gathering and although I had heard some things in the past that made me nervous asking her to sign a book, I found her to be warm, shy and gracious. I also think she had quite a good time dancing at the banquet ( as did our own Profstokes). Smiles were everywhere that night! Vam and I sat at the same dinner table with Diana Millay and that was fun and interesting. Marie and Terry were their usual charming selves and Roger Davis was Roger Davis :-) when he was there. The crowd was much smaller than before and the only problem with that was there was a lack of questions sometimes for the cast to answer but it gave everyone plenty of time small talk and catch up. I only wish there wasn't so much time before the next DS gathering in August!

Hello, VAM and Teresa!  It's good to know that you two made it home safely.

This was quite a weekend, and though it had its share of ups and downs, I'm really glad that I was able to attend.  The memories will have to sustain me through the next ten months until Festival 2003.  I really do think that DS events should be spread evenly through the year--how about one every three or four months, lol?  I hope to begin writing my weekend report soon (though I'll probably just describe a couple of events here and provide a link to a longer report elsewhere) and perhaps even include a few photos.

I'm glad you had a good time, VAM and others from the board! I went 2 years ago to the Halloween event, will probably be the only time I make it there, glad I got to go once.

Has anyone heard from Denise Nickerson lately?  I always remember seeing her at a Halloween event that was organized at the Lockwood Mathews House in Connecticut several years ago.

That is nice about the birthday cake for Miss Parker.  It sounds like a fun event.  I love seeing Terrayne Crawford--she has such marvelous energy.  And it's always fun to see what Diana's been up to.

Steve

The first day Terrayne and I spent over 4 hours talking to each other. I also had the opportunity to have breakfast with her on Monday before leaving for home.
She is a lovely lady!

I had another interesting few moments where I was the only fan in the room with Lara, Diana, and Terrayne viewing the Lyndhust pre-tour video. The rest of the attendees were in another location being treated to a Q & A with Roger Davis. Looks like I got the better option of the visit.;)

No, he didn't ( I think he was under the weather as were a few others) but I could see that gleem in his eye and knew he was just dying to do it!

Teresalita is right, I was under the weather and retired fairly early as early goes. I did have the urge to sing a Partridge Family song or two, but they failed to play any before I went to bed. :(

Bob, I'm clearly way out of the loop (and it's my own fault for not attending DS fan events in such a long time).  You now have a Partridge Family act?  Got any photos of yourself in Keith Partridge gear?  Please don't tell me that you play "Danny."  I can imagine the lovely ladies who play Shirley and Laurie.

Can't wait to hear more about your gigs!

I met someone last year who had a bus with the Partridge Family colored panels painted on it.

I think we all had a blast.  The schedule was A LITTLE off(Being sarcastic) but I think the best part of the weekend was meeting new people and giggling in the bar with friends.

ProfStokes, I had a great time meeting you.  I guess we were both just so busy in LA that we didn't get much of a chance to talk.  It's always nice to have someone around who understands my reference to Muppet Babies instead of seeing the blank stares from people mostly 20+ years older than me.  But you all know I love you anyway.  I left early monday morning so I didn't get a chance to get your email address.  If you'd like to email me, I'm Jbrown1977@aol.com

I wish I could tell you exactly what the problem was, but I can't. It's also happened to me on more than one occasion, and I know the problem is related to my ISP because I can log out of it and log back on to the Internet with another service and get right through to the forum. :-/ I won't say that I'm glad to see that someone else has experienced the same problem, but at least now I know it's not only my ISP. It's also not just the forum because I'm a member of the InformIT Online Books service, and I had a terrible time getting through to them last week with my regular ISP.

My best guess is that Internet congestion is the culprit. There are only so many router paths available. Normally, if one path is clogged with traffic at some point along the way, another less direct path will get you where you want to go. But every once and a while an alternative just isn't available, and the only thing you can do is wait for one to become available. IE tends to time out if it can't get through to a site in a set amount of time, but Netscape will keep trying to find an open path until you stop it from looking. So what I usually do when I really want to get through to a site and I don't have access to an alternative ISP is leave Netscape running and within 10 to 15 minutes it eventually finds its way. (Unfortunately, though, the connection doesn't necessarily last for as long as I 'd like it to, so I have to wait all over again for it to find another path in. :-/)

LOL no , not quite Steve. During a film break at last years Halloween party they were playing retro songs and when "I Think I Love You" came on something possessed me (probably the several dacquiri's I had drank to that point ;>) ) to get up and grab the mic and sing along.  I'll leave it to those who were present to grade my performance, but I know Lorraine enjoyed it ;)  Bob

Thanks for the great photo Bob. :-)

Actually I was trying for an aged Cassandra... The photo depicts before and after Sam Evans touches up Angelique"s portrait.

(Cassandra, I know next to Lara, who always looks wonderful, anyone would look bad. But to suggest I resemble Bathia Mapes...)

Ooh, I see,  sorry about the mix-up Vam.  I had totally forgotten all about the aged Angelique and the portrait and with the gray wig and black cape, I immediatley thought of[kaiokn] Bathia Mapes.[kaiokn]  Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Hey, Bathia Mapes or not, you still looked great! :-)

THIS was a joy to read.  So interesting.  And DETAILED.
Jeez -- how do you remember all this stuff?  Do you take shorthand or use a cassette recorder or something?
I love the anecdotes.
I can't believe you all had to stand on line for 2 hours.  I never would have lasted.

Thanks for posting your account.  I can't wait for the next installment.  It's great for some of us poor, unfortunate souls who can't make it to these events.

Hi Professor, I just finished reading your great report on Tim' s board and I really enjoyed it!!  You would really make a good writer or News Reporter!  Even after a slow start on Friday night it still sounds like you had a great time!

The ladies of DS are all so gracious and it was great hearing them tell of their fond memories of some of their cast members, especially of the ones who are no longer with us.

Thanks Prof. for sharing this with us unfortunate ones who couldn't attend this year.  Im looking forward to the next installent!   :-)

Beautifully written descriptiuon of the events, Profstokes, as always.  I enjoyed every word.  Too bad all the men except Roger Davis couldn't make it, but them's the breaks, I guess.  I know KLS hated working with Roger Davis, too, so imagine if she had been there!  Except for Lara, it sounds like he was most of the ladies' least favorite fella on DS.

Love, Robin

Well, at least those 2 hours gave everyone enough time to really get to know each other. And, the next day we got to know each other even more during another 2 or so hours :-) At least the line was more like a cocktail party at times. You could move around and chit chat.
PS- I tried to get a quote on here but after 3 tries, I just gave up.

Teresalita, if you mean you couldn't quote a post, the easiest way is to click "Quote" and edit out whatever text you don't want to use, but leaving everything that's inside the brackets.  But if you meant you couldn't copy & paste because right click isn't working, you can click Edit/Copy, then Edit/Paste, or use Ctrl + C then Ctrl + V.  Did that help?

Hey Prof. Stokes!  Just got back from Mr. Juggin's board and loved your account of the Friday nite Ladie's panel!
Great to hear their recollections on fellow DS actors as well as others like DeNiro!  Whew!  HeeHee...can't you hear him say to LP..."you talkin' bout me?"

Bob, don't you remember last year on Sunday after watching NODS that you led the jam to the Partridge tune..."I woke up in love this morning"?  All us girls singing along with you?  Hmmmm, if you don't, we can blame it on the orange bippies we polished off!  Ahhhh, the memories! [wink2]

I've just posted the second part of my report.  You can access it through the original link (just scroll down) or you can visit my new Tarrytown web site (designed and established by the generous and talented victoriawinters [hello])  The site will feature the complete report of events as well as some of my pictures from the weekend.  Currently, it's still under construction, but feel free to drop by and take a look over the next few days to see what's new. http://www.geocities.com/professorstokes2002/index.html

Also, I'd like to encourage the other folks who were in Tarrytown to share their memories as well.  It's enjoyable to read everybody's different perspectives of an event.  Furthermore, I write these reports from memory and it's very possible that I may have omitted or mis-remembered something about the weekend.  I'd love to hear what the rest of you have to say about your experiences, so please step in.
