In response to the many inquiries he's received from fans via his web site, Facebook, etc., David Selby has some comments about the upcoming Depp/Burton DS film on his blog:

I think that's pretty much my attitude towards it, so it's nice to see him viewing it that way. It really would be great if he could also have a cameo in it.
-
It's interesting to me that the DS actors, the ones who created the DS roles, are more open to the new movie than many fans are.
-
Very nice comments from David Selby. Glad that DS is being made into a movie.

Wouldn't that be cool to have both Frid and Selby do cameos in the movie. Perhaps they could be seen on a bench together swapping tales of the horrors of days of old in Collinsport.
Ah, we can dream...

I heard that Frid turned down the cameo and I wonder if Selby read the script. If he really wants a cameo in the movie, of course he's going to side with how Burton and Depp are doing things.

I enjoyed reading David's comments about the new movie and it would be nice if he had a cameo. As for Jonathan, it would have been great if he had done a cameo, too, but it was a little strange, he made a big announcement on his website that he was going to do a cameo in the movie and then the announcement just disappeared... Where did you hear that? Or did Frid's cryptic March 10th comment made you think that? http://www.jonathanfrid.com/diaries.html

Throw in Lara Parker too so we can have the Trio of Terror!
-
I suspect that the Burton camp is going to start bribing all remaining actors from DS to say positive things about the upcoming movie. They stoop to anything to get that big ten dollars from DS fans.

About 10 years ago I bought my first DS convention video because I did not live close enough to go to any of the festivals and there was a discussion about the possibility of a DS movie. David mentioned he was a Depp fan and he really liked him in Sleepy Hollow. There was also a mention of Hugh Jackman as a good choice for the next Quentin ( I believe David's son JT mentioned it, as he had just seen the first X-Men). But from what I'm reading QC will not be a part of the new movie. Anyway, I am not a Depp or Tim Burton fan (with the exception of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure) but I like that there will be a new take on DS. I'm not someone who grew up watching it so maybe I come by the idea alot easier than those of you to which DS was a childhood favorite. But that's just my take. These days people are so quick to judge everything before it happens, and since Burton's last few films have taken some hits I think there's people out there assuming the new DS film is a mistake. Whatever they come up with, in my mind it's not going to tarnish the original. To be frank NODS and HODS are no masterpieces and here we are 30 plus years later.

Excellent point! I agree.

HODS? A masterpiece? Please? It's an enjoyable B horror movie that's always fun to watch, that's what it is.
NODS is beautifully shot. I can't judge it properly unless the director's cut becomes available, but it sure has atmosphere.
-
NODS is beautifully shot.
I agree completely. Dan Curtis and DP Richard Shore really knew how to use Lyndhurst to full advantage in that film. While it's essentially just an average supernatural thriller, NODS has style to spare, and superb lighting, framing, and camera angles, at least when it comes to shots involving the house (which is what I mostly concentrate on when watching the movie).
-
IMO, I believe the HODS, could have been better if it wasn't a blood bath, and If they were not doing the TV Show and the movie at the same time. DC was just doing things that I don't think that he could have done on the air.
NODS, I wasn't really impressed by it. But then I saw it when it was late. I would love to see the directors cut of it. That would make a big difference.
It sounds like the new movie is going to be different than the show in some aspects. I will try very hard not to compare the the original show. It can't be the same, different actors and different time.
