Title: O/T....Can't get away even for a night on the town!!
Post by: Raineypark on October 06, 2002, 07:22:14 AM
So there we were, making our way down 47th St....trying to get to Radio City before the Moody Blues took the stage....when up ahead I see a large yellow sign all lit up, advertising a local eatery by the name of...

MAGGIE'S PLACE

...so naturally I crack up laughing, prompting my husband to demand what's so g-d damned funny about being stuck in traffic....which makes me laugh harder!

Yes, the concert was wonderful....no, we didn't stop at Maggie's Place. [lghy]

Well, I'm jealous. Nights In White Satin, Tuesday Afternoon, I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock And Roll Band), Your Wildest Dreams, The Voice, and I Know You're Out There Somewhere are all big favorites of mine. And don't even get me started talking about Days of Future Past - I completely wore out my first copy of that LP and had to replace it. :D

I didn't even realize they were touring. But then, with that chain, I don't get out much. [wink2]

So, exactly what am I supposed to apologize for...GOING to the concert?...or MENTIONING the concert?

And they played every one of those songs...except maybe The Voice....not sure about that...we DID get there a bit late.

The Husband heard about it and decided to buy the tickets as a surprise for The Kid who has never been to a concert (and LOVES the Moody Blues)....so what happens?.....The Kid gets sick and stays home while WE go to the concert without her.  It put a bit of a pall over the whole event.

Hey Rainey, lucky you!  I love the MB's and have most of their tapes & CD's.[thumb]  So many great songs too! Glad you enjoyed it!

That's funny about "Maggie's Place"  it's like you can't get away from DS even if you wanted to! ;-)

Well, since Rainey went to see the Moody Blues, it reminded me of this little thing I did awhile back.  It's not funny or anything...I just took the ending words from Nights In White Satin having to do with the moon, and put them with Quentin.

Big Moody Blues fan here, too from teenagerhood.  "A new mother picks up and suckles her son"--one of the lines that always gave me chills!

One of their songs, "For My Lady," always makes me think of Barnabas and Josette.  So pretty.

Connie, that was perfect!  You do such a great job on your little gifts to us.

When down in Atlantic City recently, I saw a store sign that said "Robina's."  Wonder what she sells?)  Those who have read my DS novel of that name know why *I* started laughing in the middle of the boardwalk, and when my husband asked why, I said, "Nothing, Dan.  DARK SHADOWS just follows me everywhere, that's all."

Love, Robin

I like "Twilight Time", from Days Of Future Passed, and one of their 80's songs, called "Gemini Dreams", at least I think that's the name of it, not going to look through a million cd's to find it.

While out driving at night with a friend in California, we passed a place called Noah's Bagels, and he says, "Oh look, there's Noah Gifford's Bagels!" Not long after that, we saw a place called Harry's Automotive, then he says, "Well, at least we know now that something productive became of Harry Johnson!" It was so funny! Whenever I see the Howard Johnson Inn here in Las Vegas, I always think of Harry Johnson. There's also a street here named Craig Road. I love that! Also, Stephanie Street, my daughter loves that one!

Raineypark, glad you enjoyed the concert.  I rarely get to see DS connections in real life, which makes them all the more special.

But speaking of DS connections, did it occur to you that the group's initials are MB?  Heheh, talk about an omen. ;)

Hey, "Maggie's Place" could be sung to the tune of "Mary's Place" from The Rising.  (Bruce was so great on SNL last nite; Teresa, where the heck are you??!!)

Connie, this Quentin montage is beautiful.  I think David Selby would enjoy seeing it sometime.  Have you given him printouts of any of your work?

The only album I know by the Moody Blues is Days of Future Passed, but it's one of my favorite albums.  The old videos of their Sixties TV performances are quite haunting, as well.  They had some real lookers in that band back in the day.  I'm sure they all look like grizzled parchment now.  Time is not kind ...

Actually, Steve, Time hasn't been cruel either.....

The photo in the program looks pretty good, truthfully.  They were handsome young men....now they're handsome older men!....Justin Hayward is still beautifully blonde!

The AUDIENCE, on the other hand, was pretty freakin' old!!....(yes, us included!!)  The guy sitting next to The Husband was a ringer for Jerry Garcia....dead or otherwise!

Now I remember where that name Justin came from. When I was in my senior year of high school, my boyfriend of 3 years, used to talk about when we would get married and have children (never came to pass), he wanted to name the boy Justin, if we had one. He was a big Moody Blues fan too. Another flashback moment!

Im more with the early "40's' crowd but I feel more healthier now than I ever did when I was younger. My daughter who is 19 and her boyfriend still can't make the 3 mile jog that I do everyday!  The funny thing is that I could barely walk to the corner store back when I was in my 20's and now that I've hit 40 here I am running!
It's strange but sad how we take youth for granted when we're young.  I wish I knew then what I knew now!

BTW,  I love Sting!  ;-)

I feel the opposite Cassandra. When I was in high school, I was in perfect shape. I jogged, worked out every day, played tennis, etc. I think it's the only reason I survived all the drugs and booze back then. My best friend in high school died not long after we graduated. After having a baby 6 years ago, and surviving a major car wreck just 4 months later, I now have to struggle to get back into shape. It totally messed me up. I do walk 4 miles a day, back and forth from my daughter's school though. It helps!

Wow, it sounds like you went through alot yourself Cheryl.  Those were some days and I think every generation has it's share of youth problems, be it drugs, drinking or whatever. Some are lucky enough to survive it and unfortunately, there are others who don't.

That's great that you walk 4 miles now!  Good for you! It's the best medicine.  I even have my Mom walking now everyday, she's 79 & looks great!

I am very lucky to be here also since I was so very sick 5 years ago and I shrudder to think of what may have been had I not acted immediately on my suspicions.

I end up walking most of the time, but if my neighbor, who drives her kids to school, happens to see me, she gives me a ride. I envy her, she has a son that has red hair. All of her other kids have blonde hair like my daughter. Getting back to the title of this topic, this morning, I was a parent helper in my daughter's class, I do that once or twice a week. I had come back to the classroom after finishing laminating some of the kids work in another room, and the teacher was talking about bats, of all things, I walk in on a lecture about bats, and hear him saying something about bats flying at night, and explaining a paper about bats that he wants them to work on. I  immediately thought of this topic, can't get away from Dark Shadows any place!

True Cassandra, just wish I had said no to all of it, but I'm an overcomer. I really believe it's because of my parents prayers, and the prayers of others, who never stopped praying for me.
