The following is a short list of words and phrases used regularly by the good people of Collinsport, Maine. However, common as they are in Collinwood, how often in your own lifetime would you ever have the opportunity or occasion to use them yourself?
1. "Open the coffin."
2. "He's in that other time now."
3. "But . . . you're dead!"
4. "It must have been some kind of wild animal."
5. "We must find her and destroy her."
6. "The body . . . it's gone!"
Please add to this list other expressions common only to the townsfolk in Dark Shadows.

Good ones, Dr. Lang!
But you did leave out the phrase I think was used most often and which, alas, most of us also have to utter from time to time:
I DON'T UNDERSTAND!
-
One I've heard a few times from Julia,
It's not possible!
-
"I can. I will. I must!"
"Look into my eyes...You will hear my voice and you will obey!"
ProfStokes
-
Barnabas' favorite "I was away all day on business in Bangor."
-
you are very kind arghhhhhhhhh
-
ROFLMAO, Dr. Lang! Oddly enough, I have never had occasion to use those phrases or
"I want her to come to me of her own free will."
-
The early classic- "I'm sorry- did I startle you?" [shckd]
And, a variation on a theme - "You can't kill me because I'm already dead!" [smrtasg]
The oft overused query- "What do you mean?" [hdscrt]
And the hyperbolic "it's terrifying," generically used to describe melodramatic situations such as getting traffic tickets or being late for work, as well as hauntings and werewolf sightings!

Ha ha, after reading this discussion board earlier, my kids and I were watching a movie. My son innocently asked as a car is driving on the show:
"Did they go through time?"
It must be the Collinsport influence, though, wouldn't you say?
-
LOL!!! Chris, thank goodness I have never had the occasion to use any of those terms!!
You can also add two of Barnabas' favorite words to the list: NEVERMIND!![/b] and of course his all time favorite line when he's trying to boss Julia around like he did in yesterday's episode! "DO AS I SAY!!![/b] (It's a good thing she doesn't always listen) :-)
-
Just thought of another one: "I'll explain everything later."

I DON'T UNDERSTAND!
Happybat - You're right, this phrase is used with alarming regularity in Collinsport.
It's not possible!
Craig_Slocum - this one really kills me. After vampires, ghosts, time travel and experiments on creatures sewn together from dead body parts, what on earth makes Julia or Barnabas think anything in this town isn't possible???
"Look into my eyes...You will hear my voice and you will obey!"
Good one, ProfStokes. The variation on this is "Look into my eyes. Look deeper and deeper into my eyes." I don't know that I've ever had the occasion to say such a thing in my life!
"I was away all day on business in Bangor."
Right you are, onyx_treasure. Considering the amount of time Roger, Barnabas (allegedly) and Burke spent in Bangor it's a wonder they didn't live there instead of Collinsport.
you are very kind
Another good example, tripwire. This one gets used a lot. By the same token, "You are evil" is used with equal regularity. They're so judgemental in Collinsport.
"I want her to come to me of her own free will."
Oh, how could I have missed this one, kuanyin? Notice how Adam picked this one up from his "daddy," Barnabas, when he wanted Eve? LOL!
"You can't kill me because I'm already dead!"
A perfect addition to the list, petofi. Very few people ever get a chance to say that! It's alarming to think of how many people in Collinsport get the chance. Also, your comment on the over-use of the word "terrifying" reminds me of how many times someone has been on a "strange and terrifying journey" somewhere.
"DO AS I SAY!!!
Yes, Cassandra, not only Barnabas but a host of others (Angelique, Nicholas, Joshua, Judith . . . the list is endless). Boy, they sure are bossy at Collinwood!
"I'll explain everything later."
And then they never do, do they?
-
How about" Let's have a seance"The Collins's way of getting explanations for things!
even the kids used it!
jennifer
-
?!? "Why are you staring at the moon?"
Afan
-
6. "The body . . . it's gone!"
Haha, disapearing bodies are such a staple plot twist of DS, not mentioning this one is impossible.
-
And don't forget "COME TO ME NOW!
and "ARE YOU MAD??
