Title: Dress Up
Post by: Josette on October 01, 2002, 08:24:31 AM
It's interesting that Mrs. Johnson senses something is up with the children and that no one else does, and they don't seem to believe her.  But, at this point, I really can't see why she feels that way.

Her reaction to their old-fashioned clothes, especially, drives me crazy.  It's a very normal thing for children to dress up and make pretend characters based on those clothes.  Especially living in an old mansion like that where they have lots of things from the past, it would be expected.  I can never figure out why that alarms her so much.

Basically I think that Mrs.Johnson is just so in tune to the kids, (especially David) that she just can sense that something isn't quite right with them.  With Roger being away (still?) Liz, not around either, and Maggie being new, Mrs.Johnson is practically the only one who really knows them well, although Carolyn also sensed something isn't right with David also.

What got me is when Maggie said to Mrs.Johnson that "they're two of the most darling kids she knows"  (she really doesn't know them that much at all) and since she is so new to all of this, they probably just seem like normal kids to her.

Mrs.Johnson has been around the household now long enough to know David pretty well since she took care of him alot and I think she's become pretty fond of him. (Remember how upset she was over him and the dream curse?)

As for the dress up game, IMHO I think she was more upset with what she was hearing than from actually seeing them playing dress up. :-)

I agree with Cassandra. I think it is so funny to hear Mrs. Johnson try to explain what is wrong with the kids! It sounds so lame and yet, she is very right. She just can't put her finger on what it actually is.

"I think there is something wrong with David, Maggie, I really do. I think he is possessed by the spirit of a very tall, yet obscure ancestor that noone up to now has ever heard of. AND, you should have seen the lecherous expression he had when looking at Amy, I've never SEEN the like!" (Yes, Mrs. Johnson, we can believe THAT. Ahem.)
