Title: Cousin Joe
Post by: scout75 on September 16, 2002, 07:50:32 PM
So what's the deal with Joe Haskell's new hair color?

And why is he being so condescendingly stupid about the pentagram on his pretty boy face and the warning from Janet Findley? After all, it wasn't very long ago that he was Vampy Angelique's man-bitch!

What a good-natured simpleton! [dsapb][smrtasb]

Maybe this is why Joel Crothers decided to leave the show. He said in an interview he was tired of playing "nice guy" Joe Haskell and when he heard about the new Quentin character he asked Dan Curtis if he could play that part and Curtis told him "no." I guess after having had a taste of a more complex character like Nathan Forbes it was quite a let-down to return to playing milqutoast Joe.

The same seems to be true of Alexandra Molkte; her decision to leave the show seemed to be based more on her dissatisfaction with the role rather than her pregnancy.

It's ironic in both cases because if they'd just stuck around a little while longer they would have both gotten the chance to play new characters in 1897. It's especially ironic for Crothers because as far as I know he went on to play nothing but bland, nice guy characters on the others soaps he went to.

I feel really dumb.   :P  I didn't notice the color of Joe's hair was different.   :-[

I noticed Joe's hair the minute he stepped into the door...or at least thought something looked different on him ..then I realized what it was.

It may of shown up because the color of his coat...or at least that's what made me notice it.

His condensending attitude ...so nice to Mrs. Stoddard.  What a turn around from when we last saw him before he wound up in the hospital.

:):):)   Henna rinse?  I found it to be shoe polish black and very unflattering.  He had light brown hair didn't he?  Maybe being too close to Cassandra rubbed off on his hair! [lghy][lghy][lghy]

That would have probably been true for Joel, but I'm not so sure about AM. She seems to have been stuck in a "Vicky hell" where she was one of the two people on the show that were not destined to play another character. Frid did FINALLY by insisting that he wouldn't remain on the show any other way. AM reportedly tried to come back IF she could play another role. No dice. I think that is a real shame and  a loss for us fans.

I agree he was great as Nathan and had a lot more range as an actor than some of the others!
he would have added a lot to 1897! could have been a relative to Nathan!
