Fill in the blank: "Julia and Hallie would dance the ________ with abandon whenever they found that they were the only two people at Coilinwood for the entire evening!!"
-
Addams Family tango
-
[laughing4] And since obviously Hallie didn't, I wonder if Julia would add Morticia tentacles to the bottom of her skirt/dress? [wink2]
-
Dance of the seven tablecloths
-
[pointing-up] That's too funny!! [rofl10] [thumb]

"... the Colombian Tango, a bastardized version of the Argentine Tango in which, instead of kicks and flicks, the dancers swap drugs in exotic gestures with abandon ..."
-
Someone kinda did that during one of the early festival costume contests. What appeared to be a bag of laundry suddenly appeared on stage. Slowly, the layers were removed in what I shall politely refer to as interpretive dance. To the tune of Killing Me Softly, no less.
-
([pointing-up] I find that extremely hard to picture - and I'm not the least bit upset that I missed it!! [ghost_nowink] [lghy] But thanks for sharing. [b003])

That was one of the many contributions from one of the mainstays of the early festivals, Adriana Pena. Adriana was quite a character and attained a cult following that transcended Dark Shadows entirely. People who had absolutely no interest in anything else related to the festival wanted to know what she did in the costume contest.
Her ideas were brilliant, insane or insanely brilliant.
Some of her presentations included:
1). A dancing salamander. A fire elemental. Not a reptile. Interpretive dance is perhaps the nadir of the gala.
2). A tribute to the then new Annette Funicello movie entitled Beach Blanket Bat
3). Elizabeth Stoddard in an authentic 1940's ensemble. Complete with fir poker.
4). Counselor at Camp Collinsport. I have no idea what this presentation was all about. Adriana was from South America. She had both an extremely thick accent and a pronounced stutter. The most memorable part of this one was a flapping bat hat from a store in Maryland called Hats From the Belfry.

Waltz Twist
-
[pointing-up] THAT must have surely been a unique sight!! [a1f5] [thumb]

Discombobulated Baboon
-
[pointing-up] Now, that seems perfect for the capture!! [cheers] [easter_wink] [easter_grin]
