Title: Episode #1082
Post by: CTP/FITBs on October 14, 2010, 10:45:52 PM
[It's up to the first poster to come up with a set up, and then each following post will either complete it or fill in the blank(s). And, as always, whoever posts the set up is certainly allowed to post their own completion/fill in as a follow up.]

 [cup]

Fill in the blank: "Barnabas had an extremely strange reaction after he'd sampled the ________ that Sebastian had offered him!!"

[pointing-up]  Yeah, I suspect even a vampire would have a strange reaction to THAT!!  [laughing11]  [bigok]

Doesn't Antoinette do that to Barnabas in The Salem Branch?

([pointing-up]  I have no idea - I gave up on Lara's writing after she seemingly endlessly hammered her readers over the head with how manipulated/innocent Angelique really was in Angelique's Descent!!  Talk about justifying to the extreme your character's actions!!  ::))

My "favorite" part of Angelique's Descent was her description of Barnabas, a description that would have been far more accurate for someone like Antonio Banderas. Barnabas, Banderas, maybe she just got the two of them confused. [ghost_rolleyes]

([pointing-up]  She seemed to be confused when she wrote a lot of that book!!  [nodassent])

I didn't like the first book at all. I was expecting a horror novel and what she delivered was a bodice ripper. I enjoyed the second book a lot more. The Antoinette character is apparently based on Lara's own experiences as a commune dwelling hippie. The character was kind of a wannabe folk singer. I enjoyed the book a lot more when I pictured Antoinette as Phoebe Buffay. Smelly vat, smelly bat, what are they feeding you? [ghost_rolleyes]

I enjoyed the second book a lot more.

(Maybe I should give it a try, then...)

The humor was most likely unintentional.

([pointing-up]  I'm sure that's the truth - but that might make it all the more fun to read!!  [b003])

I think that you'll enjoy it more if you approach it with limited expectations. Is Lara likely to win the Nobel prize for literature? Definitely not. Is she a better writer than Marilyn Ross? Kinda.
