Title: Minor Question about 1970 PT storline
Post by: Julia99 on August 23, 2002, 05:49:52 PM
I was watching some MPI tapes the other weekend .. where RTJulia crosses into PT and kills herself! lol!  Good scenes really. . .Julia never liked killing anyone, especially her evil twin.  .but i digress--not too far, it is after all me. .and you know who this question will be about .. .William Loomis sees her, recognizes after a bit who she is . . .Julia confirms. . says she came to help Barney and William alludes to **knowing** there is  more between them than doctor-patient.  Julia tartly replies, she's been interested in Barnabas for medical reasons (hence the blurb under my avatar) .. so when William had Barnabas locked up. . was there an on-screen discussion of Barnabas's life in RT and in particular Dr.Hoffman .. or do we just assume it happened?  And what the heck would Barney have said anyway. . "uh. .oh, I got this doctor friend and since she's kinda **HOT** for me. . she does whatever i want. .you know kills folks, gives 'em drugs, hypnotizes them to forget. .??""  what??   ?!?

If I remember correctly, 99% of Barnabas' narrative to William is off-camera, and we never hear him talk about Dr. Julia.

The only mention that we hear Barn make to Wiliiam  H. about Julia is that he compares her to the Hoffman of PT. He says something to the effect that the Julia Hoffman of his time is a doctor, a good friend and he MAY indicate that she knows what Barn is and keeps his secret .  His point being that she is very different  from the Hoffman of PT.

My personal opinion is that RT Julia and PT Hoffman really aren't all that different.

Sure, they have very different stations in life, but they are both fiercely devoted protectors of the undead.

Can anyone disagree?  *shrug*

Hmmmm, a very interesting observation...the difference being that RT Julia is devoted/obsessed with someone who turns out to be"good" rather than evil.
So, the question is, how far would Julia go to protect Barn....she's already killed for him.  Very thought provoking question, got to ponder a bit more.  ?!?

It's an interesting notion that I hadn't thought of before, and I tend to agree with what's been stated so far.

Perhaps RTJulia is mostly good--although she's done several evil deeds--specifically because Barnabas, the object of her unrequited love, is similar: capable or great harm, but in a constant struggle to stay good.

If her Barnabas had gone completely to the dark side, become truly evil, would Julia have followed him?  I think the evidence from early on in the series is Yes, if Barnabas is evil, Julia would be too...

Hm m  i tend not to agree .. First, RT Julia was a much better dresser  :P although we may bemoan her wardrobe. .Hoffman, poor girl!  And don't forget how tortured Julia was about Woodard and what she was gonna do before the trip back to 1795 and the writers short memories   :-/  Barney does go bad again with the Leviathans and Julia does NOT follow. . . 8)

What does that have to do with the question? The answer is that she was DRESSED TO KILL Woddard! ::)

Hey gang,

IMHO, there are more than a few similarities between PT "Miss" Hoffman and Miss Fellows of "Night Of The Iguana" fame.

Mais oui!

(I can always disagree  ;))  Seriously though, while RT Julia and PT Hoffman may have been devoted to their respective parties, PT Hoffman didn't waste one moment of screen time worrying about it.  Hard as nails.  No conscience.   Julia may cave every time, but she laments it and worries and gives evidence that she has a conscience.

Plus, I suspect that PT Hoffman has a different sexual orientation than RT Julia . . .

I do believe that is what our erstwhile Bartender, Bob, is referring. . . :o

Dear ladies,

I refer you to Grayson Hall's comments on her role in "Night of The Iguana" in KLS' "My Scrapbook Memories of Dark Shadows," a most enjoyable book.

Yeah, I got the impression that PT Julia was a Lesbyterian, although in a subtle, understated fashion a la Miss Jane Hathaway.  Methinks such depictions have come a long way!

Wasn't PT Julia the prototype for whatzername (Carlotta?) in the Night of DS picture?

Carlotta was NOT PT Hoffman . .Grayson specifically said she wasn't doing that again and wanted a better wardrobe!   8)
