Joan, of course, in any number of films. Which I would pick as my favorite? "The Reckless Moment"I've just got to see that one!

My fave non-DS performance by our dear Grayson was as Miss Judith Fellowes in "Night of the Iguana". Miss Fellowes was such a dedicated chaperone to young Charlotte Goodall and that evil "Rev" T. Lawrence Shannon was so cruel to her. Miss Fellowes was so dedicated to Charlotte she was willing to sleep at the foot of her bed if Charlotte so desired! ;D
I've just got to see that one!
I just looked it up, since you mentioned it, and it turns out that The Deep End--one of my favorite independant films from last year--was a remake of that movie... I can't wait to see the original, with our dear Ms. Bennett... But it doesn't look like it's out on video or DVD... Oh well, I guess I set up a TiVo wishlist for it, and keep my eyes open for latenight TV...
John Karlen, as Harvey Lacey, of course. He more than held his own with that Richter Scale-measuring persona otherwise known as Tyne Daly.I'd totally forgotten about that... He was great on that show... I'd love to see those reruns again.
Does anyone think I could get Night of the Iguana in DVD anytime soon? I could buy the video, but hate to if it will come out on DVD.It's not on anyone's release schedule, nor are than any specific rumors about it. Like many great films of mostly "literary" interest, I suspect the VHS is still the best bet for the foreseeable future.
Thayer David in the original Nero Wolfe pilot film of the Seventies is another treat. Thayer David is always fabulous to watch, but this gave him some wonderful lines and situations to play, plus he was at the center of the action, where I always felt he belonged. It's a shame that this movie has never been released on video.
Haven't seen very much of Lara Parker's other work, but of what I have seen, her guest role on Kolchak: the Night Stalker is a lot of fun. Apparently it was less than fun for her to do because of some tension between herself and the show's star, Darren McGavin. Lara played a young, powerful witch moonlighting as a fashion model.

Lara Parker. .i remember her mostly from two other works --that vacationing with Loretta Swit thing where they saw Devil worship in the woods. . that was a riot and of course. ..
Duh! (Right about now I could use a smiley that slaps itself upside the head.)...
Here ya go...(http://216.40.241.68/otn/other/11doh.gif)

My absolute favorite Thayer David appearances are in The Wild Wild West series. After one character was involved in the theft of a samurai sword, TD was brought back a year later to play a thief that preyed on Mexican villagers (in the guise of Cortez!). His villains were awesome; it's almost hard to believe this is the same guy that played Ben.
Dennis Patrick - "Joe," "All In the Family"
Carol, I should've realized you were taping JK's various appearances. Duh! (Right about now I could use a smiley that slaps itself upside the head.)...
His Hill Street Blues episode aired yesterday, but it should again in the near future and with Kosmo's help I can let alert you to it a few days in advance. Johnny is only in one scene but he's great, as always.
Dennis Patrick - "Joe," "All In the Family"
Kenneth McMillan - "The Pope Of Greenwich Village," "Ragtime," "Blood Brothers," "Moonchildren" (off-Broadway), "Salem's Lot"
I just remembered a classic episode of Lost in Space starring Dennis Patrick as the Golden Man, Mr. Keemo. That was a stand-out episode of that series.
I've been slowly taping John Karlen's guest star roles from Murder, She Wrote, Perry Mason, The Walton's and my latest was an ebay auction of the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries from 1977 where he played a boxer named "Rocky". He acts just like "Willie"--if he had finally escaped Barnabas and had his own life. He's so damn cute in it. :-*
I also have his Daughters of Darkness, MacShayne: Winner Takes All, The Dark Wind, BabyCakes, Daddy, and several others.
Carol,
I told DS fan/pop culture expert Kosmo about your project, and he let me know that Karlen's Rockford Files appearance will air on TVLand on Sunday nite/Monday morning at 1 a.m. ET.
I admire your efforts (have a pretty good David Selby video collection myself ;)), but wonder if you're taping all of his Cagney & Lacey and Mad About You eps too? :o If so, my hat is definitely off to you!
I don't haveANYMad About You episodes with JK but I do have quite a few Cagney & Lacey ones. Not all but enough to keep me happy. ;D
Yep...just give Carol a bottle of wine and some Karlen tapes, and she's happy.
;)
I stand in awe, Carol.....I don't have any of the Cagney and Lacey episodes, though I watched every one of them.....don't think we even owned a VCR when they were on.
Worst of all, I've never seen ANY of his Mad About You performances. I find Helen what's-her-face so unbearable to watch I simply never saw a single episode of that show. He played somebody's father, didn't he?
Raineypark, who would like to come spend a week in your TV room!

:o WHAT?! John Karlen was on Mad About You? I used to watch that show regularly until they had the baby and then dumped the actors who played Helen's parents in order to bring Carroll O'Connor and Carol Burnett on.
I wasn't watching DS at the time, and wouldn't have recognized Karlen anyway. I don't think he was her dad though, was he? What part did he play?

I just checked IMDB. Paul Dooley was Gus Stemple #l from 92-93; John Karlen was Gus Stemple #2 from 93-96 while Carroll O'Connor was Gus Stemple #3 from 96 till end of series.
Dennis Patrick was also in an episode of The Rockford Files; Lara Parker and Thayer David made appearances on the series as well.
Also Jim Storm, Roger Davis, Mitch Ryan, Dana Elcar, Abe Vigoda, Joel Fabiani and George DiCenzo.
Smarty-pants! ;)
Very funny I can't bear her either Was JK on it?
Loved Harv....ey on C&L only reason watched that show!
Dear Cassandra,
Many years ago, (after DS had been off the air for a number of years) I was sitting in an off Broadway theatre, reading the playbill for a show called "Moonchildren." The play dealt with a group of college students who lived in an apartment building. Mr. McMillan played the likable (and exceedingly foul-mouthed) superintendent of the apartment building.
Anyway, the playbill listed Dark Shadows as one of Mr. McMillan's past credits. I sat there, trying to remember just who he played on the show. It wasn't until the local PBS station started airing Dark Shadows that I saw that the late, great Mr. McMillan portrayed:
SPOILER!!!
Sailor Jack Long who tries unsuccessfully to help the doomed Paul Stoddard escape the Leviathans and also the apparently unnamed Paralled Time 1970 bartender (and Bob Rooney's putative PT counterpart) who runs/owns the Eagle Tavern. (The place of employment for the immortal Buffie Harrington.)

Lifetime will be airing an episode of "Mad ABout You" with John Karlen entitled "Flashback" Part 1 tomorrow at noon. It repeats at 1:00am that night. On Tuesday at 11:00am, another episode entitled "Giblets for Murray" will have him in it.
In October, TV Land will be adding the show "Shazam!" to it's line up on Friday and Saturday nights at 1:30am. The John Karlen one will probably air either the first or second week of October.
