Title: EVE OF DESTRUCTION
Post by: VAM on August 13, 2002, 04:59:39 AM
Let's pretend Barnabas and Julia decided to hire someone to murder Eve. Who do you think from this list would make the best candidate to do the job?

King Johnny

John Yaeger

Garth Blackwood

Aristede

Mathew Morgan

Horace Gladstone

Naturally Garth Blackwood would be the best choice.  ;) The murderous, traitorous criminal that was Danielle Roget and now Eve is just the sort of person that the master of Dartmoor would want to punish.

Anyone who wants to murder Eve is fine with me.  I'm not picky.

You are right, PS, and you made your point excellently! GB is probably the only one on the list who could actually pull it off. (Maybe Yeager, but that's a big maybe - IMHO)

But my vote goes to Aristede and his "dancing lady". I think he would be the most visually appealing executioner of Eve (in terms of the actual playing of the scene).

Dom (Who's non-list choice would be Julianka.)

'Ah, you may leave here, for four days in space,
but when you return, it's the same old place,
the poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace,
you can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace,
hate your next-door-neighbor, but don't forget to say grace,
and you tell me over and over....'

I can't believe no one has quoted my favorite verse which should probably be taught in creative writing courses as an example of how not to force a rhyme:

"Yeah, my blood's so mad,
Feels like coagulatin',
I'm sittin' here,
Just contemplatin',
I can't twist the truth,
It knows no regulation,
Handful of senators don't pass legislation,
And marches alone can't bring integration,
When human respect is disintegratin',
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin',

And you tell me over and over and over again my friend"

Hehe, this is fun!

In the aftermath of 9/11, that Barry McGuire song ran through my head almost constantly.  I loved it as a teenager and even have it on one of my home-burnt CD's for one of my walking songs--but I shiver whenever I hear it now.

All I could think about was Osama bin Laden destroying our entire country.

Did you know McGuire took most of those lyrics directly from newspaper headlines at the time?

Love, Robin

Remember the Phil Ochs song from the early '60's -- There But For Fortune?  You might remember Joan Baez's recording of it.  THAT'S what gives me shivers since 9/11.
The last verse in particular:

Show me the country where the bombs had to fall,
Show me the ruins of the buildings once so tall,
And I'll show you a young land with so many reasons why
There but for fortune, go you and I -- you and I.
