Title: Dark Shadows action figures
Post by: petofi on August 10, 2002, 04:37:36 AM
[ideay] Just supposing McFarlane Toys decided to come out with a line of DS figures, with the permission and profit-sharing of Dan Curtis, of course.
If you could decide what was to be produced, which 8 characters would you choose, and from which time line?

1897 storyline and use the eight central characters such as Barnabas, Angelique, Quentin, Petofi, Trask, Magda, Crazy Jenny, Gath Blackwood :)

I wish!

I'd choose early 1897 with Judith, Edward, Quentin, Beth, Carl, Magda, Barnabas, and either Pansy or Jenny-- I can't decide.

The Quentin doll should easily go from 3-piece suit to shredded shirt, dirty pants, and bare feet.  :D

This would be my list too, right down to not being able to decide between Pansy and Jenny.  On one hand, Jenny's hair and wide eyed look would be fun, on the other Pansy had really cool shoes, and remember when she whisked the table scarf off the occassional table in the drawing room and wrapped it around her shoulders(the Pansy/Charity version)?  Now there was a chick who could accessorize.

Also like your Quentin idea  :)

I agree!!!!!!
Plus it would be fun if they had accessories.

Barnabas-a coffin-cane-caped coat

Angelique-voodoo doll

Quentin-gramphone & brandy bottle- Plus he
could be changed to a hairy wolf version

Petofi- I-ching wands and a detachable hand

Trask- hmmm....I don't know what he'd have

Crazy Jenny- her dolls and a knife

Garth- his chains

what about that dashing and daring tim shaw??  he goes tearing into that inferno that was once worthington hall (another scene from right out of an early 50s sci-fi flick) and even has the presence of mind to do a couple of shoulder dips as the tremendous heat is about to consume him and the children. And all is well, as he returns them to a very smokey foyer of collinwood.... ;D

I would choose Barnabas, Angelique, Ben, Noah, Nathan, Daniel, Vicki, and Rev. Trask from the 1795 Flashback.

OHhhh!! :D Think of all the little play sets they could milk the fans for!! C'wood, Old House - even individual rooms of each, Labongatory for sure, and Blue Whale, Diner, Evans Cottage, Nick's Place, Cemetary,....

Anybody remember 'Disney-kins' - about 3 inch plastic figures from the 60's??  [loved them!] If they made them that size, they wouldn't have to worry about details as much, and make more ~ and take up less room!  I could see a whole cast  in this size 'toy' [I would love to have a whole set!]

and oh man the accessories - that's pages and pages of posts!

What a fun idea!  I'd love to see the action figures done in the style of the Mego 8" action figures of the 1970s, with cloth costumes and rooted hair.

Naturally, I would choose a Dr. Julia Hoffman figure, with lots of accessories (stethoscope, hypodermic, medical bag).  Perhaps they could even have a line of Julia fashions, with such names as "Doing Research" and "An Evening at the Blue Whale".

As for the line of life-sized dolls, how about a "Brian Sturdivant in a bellhop uniform" doll?  <lol>

Regards,

John

This sounds like fun, I suppose I would chose various characters from different times such as...

from 1795:
Barnabas with his ring, cane and coat.
Angelique with her voodoo doll and pins.
Sarah with her bonnet, flute and doll.
from 1897:
Quentin with his gramophone, brandy snifter and removable mutton chops for instant Grant Douglas.
Magda with taro cards, crystal ball and pentagram
from 1968:
Maggie Evans with blond wig, josette's dress and music box.( interchangeable with 7195 figures)
Vickie Winters with  hair ribbons, rain coat and big bird night gown.
David Collins with bleeder valve, car manual, and skeleton key.

I'd want a Millicent/Carolyn/Leticia/Melanie one so I could make her hair do all sorts of crazy things. LAV her curls!!! And Daphne, and Quentin, Desmond, Willie, Joe, Adam, and Buzz! YAAAY!!!!!!!!  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

What a fun question!

1795 dollies for me, for sure--Barnabas, Angelique, Naomi, Joshua, Ben, Josette, Nathan (ooh, that uniform!), and Countess Natalie duPres!

The costumes would be so lovely!

Assuming this was an intro line and the possibility existed of future releases, I'd go with the basics:

1) 1966 Barnabas
2) 1795 Barnabas variant
3) Vicki
4) Carolyn
5) Angelique
6) 1897 Quentin
7) Maggie
8 ) Julia

Gosh, this reminds me of my sister and I a couple months ago! My sister decided she wanted to have her Barbies visit Collinwood. She wanted me to play and of course I agreed. We had two Barbie families, mine and hers, that were from Florida and had to visit Maine. The mother of my family had gone insane, so she had to stay at Windcliff with Julia as her doctor. So, the two families were invited to stay at Collinwood.

We had so much fun with that! Before long, we had "Dark Shadows: Episode 1256 and Beyond". We had Julia capturing my sister's father and trying to use him to cure Barnabas. We had Sarah return and try to take the children back to the past with her. Chris Jennings came back and tried to attack the sane mother. We also had Maggie and Carolyn fighting over my man. And, our favorite, Angelique placing a curse on Mrs. Johnson that made her think she was a baby.

What fun! I think we need to do that again! LOL  ;D

AH !!!   LOL.
Very good!

Ya know, that's sort of a funny picture when ya think about it.   :D
What made you think of THAT grab?
Hmm...I think we may have a budding storyboard artiste emerging (from the depths of the shadows).
Hope so, 'cause I'll be damned if I can come up with any anymore.

Yeah?  Well maybe you'll change your mind when you see this.  It's the last thing I did -- a few months ago.  Not really a storyboard, more like a vignette.

It's entitled: SIMPLY PITIFUL
(http://members.aol.com/beamoflite/images/simply-pitiful.jpg)

See?  I thought it was very funny when I did it.  (Problem is...I still find it funny).
There ya go.  YOU decide.

Well  Connie,  it has the same  sort of continuity used by the DS writers...I think it should includ Harry Johnson...

Well..I'd like a Barnabas doll with an assortment of changeable suits.  I particularly like him in the grey with a soft white shirt and blood red tie.  My next favorite would be the nice ensemble he was wearing when he practically killed Julia over the 'Sarah' issue. Dark color with matching vest. Of course, I want an Inverness cape and his silver cane and removable fangs to complete the look.  The jacket with tails he wore for the 1840 RT segment would be nice. The man looks so good in suits, tall, slender and handsome...sigh!

WOW!

You folks have some good ideas.  I tend to side with the 1897 contingent, Barnabas, Quentin, Petofi, Magda, et. al..  I think the sculptors at McFarlane Toys would have a field day with the ornate costumes and prop possibilities from that era! As for mini "playset" reproductions of the sets- Sigh- now you've got me wishing for yet another kind of fantasy collectable!

What made you think of THAT grab?

When I saw that scene the first time as an adult, I remember writing an awful rhyming thing (I wouldn't dare call it a poem) about it.  It just begs to be lampooned, you know?

Anyway, I think your last storyboard is really funny.  Thanks for the compliment, but I learned from my one attempt that it's not as easy as it looks.  It really is a unique talent, so please don't stop!

Oh, if only these dolls could've been available when we were kids.  Wouldn't it have been fun to put on our Barnabas ring and menace the Rev. Trask doll with our "giant" hand? :D

I would want the Elizabeth Collins Stoddard doll, as she would have the most clothes, accessories, and the nicest quality stuff. You'd be able to change her hair and put it up or have her wear it down, and of course she'd have a tiny little key on a chain around her neck to lock up the basement room (basement room sold separately).

It would be REALLY cool if they made a Collinwood dollhouse replica, complete with moving panels and hidden passageways.

A nice Dark Shadows lego set for me.  Hey, think about it, a little lego Barnabas wearing a little lego Inverness cape.  Little lego Vicki minus sleeves.  Little lego Collins' family tomb... well you get the idea.  ;)
