Title: LOOK OF LOVE
Post by: VAM on August 07, 2002, 03:08:44 AM
Well, if looks could kill Barnabas would be guilty of murdering Adam. How many other times on DARK SHADOWS did characters display their inner hostile thoughts by an expression and not an action? Share those moments...

Angelique is an obvious choice. She wears that "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" look almost perpetually. We first saw it in her very first episode, in 1795, where Barnabas rejects her attempts to rekindle and/or continue their affair.

Julia is another one famous for her looks. She has a pained expression of disappointment and rejection whenever Barnabas speaks about his love for Vicki.

Burke Devlin displayed his inner hostile thoughts by expressions on numerous occasions.  >:(

I remember when I... Sarah was angry with Dr. Hoffman for killing her friend DR. Woodard...  the look she gave Julia was not very friendly at all.

There was a look that 'Kitten' gave Roger once when they were talking about her and Buzz that gave me the shivers!

[and I'll bet you married types would know what I mean by 'The Look' from 'she who must be obeyed'!]

Shouldn't the Mugging Montagenist feel a little 'stirring' from this thread???????????

There were several instances of Nicholas Blair's ever-present, slick smile turning into a vicious look when others backs were turned.
Example: The incident when Vicki repeatedly turned down Blair's offer to "restore" Angelique's painting. >:(

There was the wonderful warning look that Liz gave Matthew when he was about to strangle her.  My favorite 'look' though has to be Nathan Forbes's when Daniel told him what Millicent did with her money.  That glare of outrage was enough to freeze water...

Who can forget the look on ole Mister Joshua's face when Naomi told him that their son, Barnabas was going to marry Angelique?!! I can still hear him shouting, "What!!! you mean that servant girl??!!" [argue]      At that point he looked as if he could murder anybody!! [pissd]

I agree it was a great  'look' scene as well as the one when Angelique put the Vampire curse on Barnabas...

Hmm...now that you mention it, I didn't really feel a 'stirring' oddly enough.  LOL
Can't seem to find many angry pictures for some reason.  [hdscrt]
Came up with a few though.

I'd have to say that Barnabas is the King of Looks.  I especially remember the expression on his face when, after he'd discovered Angelique was the only witch around in 1795/6, and his wife, to boot, he tried to stab her while he thought she was asleep in their bed.  She knew the cat was out of the bag, and was standing nearby.  He tells her that he could have killed her without thought or reservation, and his eyes are darting feelings at her that probably could have murdered her all by themselves!  She, in turn, is looking at him with love and frustration, because he just isn't buying what she's saying to him.  A great scene, played with amazing aplomb by Frid and Parker.  Their eyes could speak thousands of silent words!

Love, Robin
