Title: Josette's Musicbox
Post by: Maggie Evans on August 01, 2002, 06:04:29 PM
I have to say after hearing Josette's Musicbox today (for the millionth time now) I find that to be one of the most annoying tunes >:(
It was played waaaaaaaaaaaay too much in the begining of the Barnabas/Maggie storyline. Kinda like the playroom tune will later...and Angelique's theme.. Is it just me.... that these tunes get on my nerves after awhile? :-/

Actually, I rather like Josette's music theme, but I prefer the first, older version of the tune.  Hey, anything's better than hearing Dr.Lang's taped message, "if both live" over and over again.  Im still not sure if we've heard the last of that one yet. ;)

HEY!
>:(

Actually, the one that got on my last nerve was "London Bridge is falling down." The music box I can stand. :)

Annie...For some reason..quentin's theme never got tiring to me... :o  I could listen to it one hundred times and it still sounds haunting.. :)

Hello Cassandra...I agree with you..the older one is  more haunting sounding..It's not that I don't think all the tunes are  ok..it's just that..they played them too often...(at least I thought so).
Strange but I never tire of hearing the background music ... ::)

I agree... of all the themes and background music Robert Cobert composed for the show, the beautiful and haunting Quentin's Theme remains my favorite.

Another theme I find quite beautiful is Joanna's Theme from the 1840 storyline, also used as the love theme in Night of Dark Shadows.

:D Mike...I forgot about that one..I have to agree with you there, the music in NODS (Joanna's theme) was captivating..I also think the opening theme to Dark Shadows is quite haunting in itself~ :-*

I liked the Joesette Theme when I first heard it but it gets tiring.

The music box never bothered me (though I do prefer the first version of the song.)  I was never a big fan of the playroom theme, but the Blue Whale songs (all two of them) always drove me batty.

The music box wasn't that bothersome.  As much as I hate to admit it, I eventually grew really sick of Quentin's Theme.  Just show the man and get it over with!  But neither are as bad as the playroom song or London Bridges.

I never had a problem with any of the music on DS cept for the music the music they play at the beginning of each episode..it just annoys me. Like Daphne, I like the Blue Whale songs lol and never get tired of them. I always keep one of my DS tapes with the little Dark Shadows: Behind the Scenes commercial at the end unrewinded since it plays "Back to the Blue Whale" so I can just listen to it at any time  ;) The Playroom theme and Josette's Theme never got tiresome to me.

Which Angelique theme are you referencing? Is it the 1970PT ODE TO ANGELIQUE or just the music they use when she is up to her tricks?

But Bob Cobert DIDN'T write the Jeo-party music!! [he did do the theme for the Pyramid, ya know!?!?  sometimes my left field bleacher curve balls bounce off unprotected heads [crazd] -  always have yer helmet handy! ;) ]

We watch Alex T every night ~ an occasional DS related question pops up every now and then, and the Beatles are regulars ~  the wifey hates the 'before and after' ~ [but who needs the 'clue crew'???] ~ and I love the jep theme, esp. the tympani notes at the end! ::) ::)

The one I'm talking about is the one lazlo ferrari wrote for her..(the one his character was playing on the piano) So I guess it's the parallel time one  :-/

Hiya Vicki~ just shows how different all our tastes are  ;)
I really really liked hearing the musicbox jam when it first started (the older one) but by the time they decided to let Josette tell Barnabas to go on with his life and even return his ring to him..I had HAD it with that derned tune  ?!?

Well, music has changed quite a bit since the Blue Whale era, but I have to admit that at the time, they were pretty "hip"  :D.  Everytime I hear them, I picture Carolyn dancing...

Haunting?..no..I was thinking more along the lines of background music you would hear in a scene with someone who is suffering with a bad toothache :P

I was always a big fan of the Blue Whale music, even though I wondered why they didn't use any popular Beatles or Rolling Stones songs of the day.  I didn't know about cheap Dan Curtis, who wouldn't want to pay such royalties!

I adored the very first Josette's music box theme and always wished it was the music used in my plastic music box from 1970.  The second one was OK, but did get a little wearing.

As for the other commonly-used themes, Quentin's became a hit on the radio, so I heard it ad nauseum, and was truly tired of it after a while.  Angelique's theme song in 1970PT wasn't used TOO much, so I was able to tolerate that.

I hated Joanna's theme.  That music was so syrupy sweet, it could send a diabetic like me into severe shock!

Generally speaking, I thought DS' music was dynamite and really added to the allure of the show.

Love, Robin

I truly enjoyed all the tunes from DS..it's just that a few of them were totally overplayed to my ears anyway..Robert C..he's da man~~
