While watching DS do you have sympathy for the characters or do you find some quite humorous.? Are you scared or frightened at certain times? Does watching it give you that fix for the day? Share with us your emotions now and when you first watched the Series. Are they different? Explain.

The one who could always bring up every emotion in me as a viewer - comedic; tragic; evoking fear - has been Willie. Both then and now he does it.
But as a wee-widdo-kid when I first watched it, the one character that absolutely terrified me was the ghost of Jeremiah. That Evenlyn-Ankers-chasing mummy all dolled up in bloody bandages with a smooshed-up face scared the bejeepers outta me. I use to watch the show with my hands over my eyes whenever he made an appearance.

The one I remember the most from my childhood, is Evan Hanley, with the distorted face and popped out eyeball. I was about 6 years old at the time.

The show has lost none of it's suspense or moody atmosphere for me. The fact that Julia was had an unrequited love for Barnabas went completely over my head as a kid watching the first time around. One thing has not changed--it's simply great storytelling. :)

Considering I just finished my first time viewing the whole series, not much has changed for me. My scariest moments, that which I was always terrified of, were the zombies. I hate it when they have people rising up from the ground! Especially, Gerard's army of the dead. The scene I remember laughing at the most was when Worthington Hall burnt down. Most of the time, I take the show very seriously because the actors took it so seriously. But I still love the bloopers! :)

Julia had an unrequited love for Barnabas went completely over my head as a kid watching the first time around. One thing has not changed--it's simply great storytelling. :)
I've said before that as a 'youngster' [as Ed Sullivan called us!] I really missed the whole 'love story' that the show really revolves around - during the orig run, I just saw it as a Frankenstein/Corman type B-movie on TV, and mostly kinda laughed at it more than was scared by the scary stuff. I never really considered being scared as 'entertaining' [thanks AGAIN for the ghostpost!] but the storyline really got me hooked, even as a 13 - 15 year old or so. And I have said before, that it was watched by a lot of the little girls in my school, which gave me something to talk about with them, as other priorities were rising about that time, too. The show has so many levels of interest now, with the nostalgia perspective, the bloopers, certainly the great acting and storytelling, the escape of reality and of course TLATKLS :P ::). I think one real bonus is the fandom and certainly this board! Kinda like a 'Woodstock' moment ~ 'There's a whole bunch of us nuts on this bush!'

I think there might be a spoiler somewhere...
I watched the original run between the ages of 9 and 12, and remember picking up on Julia's unrequited feelings, even though I didn't really understand it fully. I just wanted Barn. to be nicer to Julia and get rid of all the other girls he was chasing, lol.
Watching it now as an adult has been a real treat, as I've been able to pick up on the nuances of the performances, and gain an appreciation for the talents of many cast members I'd overlooked as a kid.
I don't remember being scared by the show in general, except on a couple occasions...seeing the "popeye" Josette and Quentin's ghost when he was menacing David.

I certainly have sympathy for many of the characters at times, and find some humorous a lot of the times!
When I was little and the show was airing originally, I remember a scene from 1840 where a certain headless body sits up from being buried under a pile of leaves and frightens a poor woman to death. I've never forgotten that scene, it really frightened me. (I was about 6 years old.) I don't find anything on the show now to be particularly scary, although there are disturbing moments like that scary clown dream.

:o It's different watching the series now compared to being a child. Now, I laugh over the bats & coffins.
My one terrified memory was when Alexis reached into Angelique's coffin and touched her. The rest scared me to death. To this day - I don't like to watch anyone touch a dead body. It gives me the creeps! I'll never forget that one!

I tend to feel sorry for Elizebeth. Her family was eccentric enough and then cousin Barnabas shows up from England and all manner of hell breaks loose.
I was 28 or so the first time I watched it when it first came out. I don't think I was ever scared about any of it, I just watched it to see what they would come up with next. Some I thought was crappy. :P The dream curse for one. Now is the first time I have watched it through since the original time it aired. I have forgotten some of it. ?!?

I agree this is one of the most frightening scenes on DS. :o
