DS and Buffy/Angel fans alike might get a kick out of the fact that James Marsters (vampire Spike on Buffy/Angel) has just been cast in the Battlestar Galactica offshoot series Caprica as a character named Barnabus Greeley. How wild is that?! [ghost_cheesy]

That's great.

I'm very pleased to hear this. Dangerous, unpredictable, and conflicted? Oh yeah, he can do all that. [ghost_grin]

That's cool! A friend of mine recently loaned me her Buffy DVDs. In all honesty, I have always snorted in disdain about the show without ever having given it a fair shot. I'd only ever seen snippets and dismissed it all as a silly teeny-bopper show. Watching it now, I see that it's heavily character driven and more or less true to monstrous folklore. Despite how I thought I'd react to it, I'm actually really enjoying BtVS. Aw heck, I might even be addicted to it. Spike is a wonderful character. I think my favorite one so far is Giles though. I can picture him being pals with Prof. Stokes.

Sorry for the double post, but has Joss Whedon ever commented on the original DS at all? I know in one of the BtVS DVD featurettes the makeup artist talks about being a fan of the show, but I wonder if Whedon had any exposure to it.

I'm glad to see that you were finally able to come to your senses regarding Buffy, PD. [ghost_wink]
As for Whedon and DS, about the only time I remember him mentioning it was when it was rumored that the WB had canceled Angel because of the '04 pilot. Of course, that wasn't actually true - but at the time Whedon wasn't exactly a happy man. I don't believe Whedon was ever a fan himself - or at least he hasn't ever admitted it.

Penny's reaction to Buffy was very similar to mine. I refused to watch it for over two seasons. Friends tried to clue me into it, but my reaction to the original movie prejudiced me against it. I might have checked it out if our daughter had not been born about the time it premiered. I had little time for ANYTHING, never mind some loser show based on a lousy movie. Well, I was wrong. I've been massively addicted since then. Here's just how bad it got. I played BOTH Buffy X Box games and RECORDED it. I then edited the whole mess down to reasonably coherent 90+ min feature versions. I had more than 20 hours of footage for each of the two games. Trying to decide what was essential was a nightmare.
Our daughter is twelve now, and we watch Buffy and/or Angel once a week. I"m going very slowly so that she'll grow up with it and mature as the subject matter becomes more adult.

Check out: 'Caprica': James Marsters terrorizes and evangelizes (http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2010/03/caprica-james-marsters-terrorizes-and-evangelizes.html) and Caprica: James Marsters Sinks His Teeth into Another Sci-Fi Series (http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/telefile/2010/03/caprica-james-marsters-sinks-h.php)
And apparently his character's name is spelled the same as our very own Barnabas - with an "a", not a "u". Apparently we can once again chalk up the initial misspelling to people who have no idea how to actually spell Barnabas. :-\

My jaw hit the floor when I heard his name. I'd forgotten about this topic, lol. This show is great, btw.
