Title: I think it's time to ask...
Post by: borgosi on July 07, 2009, 07:31:47 AM
who's going this you? And how can we find you? Maybe we can all post a recent picture of ourselves.

Unfortunately, due to financial concerns, I won't be able to attend the Fest this year. [ghost_sad] I will miss you all. [cryg] I hope you all have fun!  [ghost_grin] Maybe I'll be able to go again next year, especially if it's in California again.  [ghost_smiley]

That should have been, "Who's going this year?"

I didn't think that I would be but now that may change! I'll know for sure within the next two weeks.

I have a family wedding that weekend in Canterbury, CT.  It will be the first time I've missed an east coast fest. [ghost_wink]

I'll be there again this year, and I look like the picture I have up here. Also, those who go regularly should recognize me from the Collinsport Players skits. Last year, I played Elizabeth. The two years prior, I was Blanche Devereaux. I would love to finally meet you guys in person. Thus far, I haven't really been that successful. It's only been by happenstance that I've bumped into some forum members.

Hey, Nancy, why not bring the whole wedding party to the festival and have the nuptials there!  There are so many wedding scenes you can select for the bridal party to choose from to recreate:  Elizabeth and Jason; Vicki and Jeff; Carolyn and Jeb; Daphne and Gerard, and maybe a few others.  Offer it as a package deal with some extras thrown in like the afghan or the Petofi box and other props that appeared again and again as wedding gifts.  Now, your family might never speak to you again, but family weddings come and go, but there will always only be one DS!

I'd love to go to Lyndhurst, I just have to see how things work out. As of now I'm going but I may wait until after the fest when I go to Newport, Rhode Island (TV's Collinwood and The Blue Whale) and Essex Connecticut (Collinsport). I let you know as soon as I know when I'm going.

Once again...unable to attend.  (((sniff)))  [ghost_sad] I guess I'll have to settle for experiencing it vicariously through all the great reports and photos - which has become a tradition I observe annually whether I'm planning to go or not.  From the things I’ve been reading, it sounds like a really good one too.

Hope everyone has a great time!

Maybe we can get a whole group together and meet at Lyndhust. We could have a picnic or something. We would just have to come up with a place and time to meet. Those who drove could gives rides to those who didn't.

What do you say? My last day of work that week is Tues. so I can be there early enough.

Yipes, mspeel007!  I'm so sorry you were conned.   [ghost_shocked]

borgosi, thank you for the new avatar.  That is a different look from last year.

I'll be attending, but for the Fest days only.  It sounds like I'll be missing out on some great side-trip opportunities.

I donate hair to "Locks of Love" every few years and I just gave them a 14" ponytail about two weeks ago. In a few months I'll start on another. But it is a big change.
Title: fest Lyndhurst trip, anybody wanta go?
Post by: borgosi on July 22, 2009, 08:59:22 PM
There was some talk here about getting together the Friday morning of the fest and going to Lyndherst. If anyone still wants to we will need to come up with a meeting place, and a way to spot each other. I say we all meet in front of the hotel around 9AM. I will be wearing somekind of DS shirt. I'm driving and should have room for two if anyone wants or needs a ride.

So what do you say? Any other ideas?

Hi Annie,

I hope to and I wish you could be there.

I have a Tracfone for the fest. The number is 1-706-421-3575. If anyone wants to hang out or maybe have a beer give me a call. If you want to maybe get together and visit Lyndhurst or Seaview let me know. We'll see what we can work out. The phone won't be in service until sometime on 8-13. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hey Borgosi,

I also donated a ponytail some years back to Locks of Love.  They're a wonderful group of people.

I was in NJ the weekend before last and the experience of attempting to navigate around on NJ Transit and PATH confirmed for me that I don't think I can manage the Festival this year.  I would love to have come to see my DS buddies.  It's too bad the people running the Festival decided they couldn't afford the Brooklyn hotel which was relatively convenient.

Have fun!  btw Seaview would be a long hike from there--getting there and back would be a very full day.  You might want to think about spending the night in Newport.

G.

I'm hoping to go to Lyndhurst, Sleepy Hollow and the Scarborough/Briarcliff Manor train station before the fest and Seaview, the Black Pearl, and Essex after the fest.

After missing last year, Diane and I are looking very forward to being back. We plan on arriving Thursday and not leaving until Monday morning. Looking forward to seeing Jonathan and John K together.  As always, a great DS festival is like a fun family reunion of people you're just not blood related to, lol. Less than a week away!  [ghost_smiley]

HUGS on the rip off MsPeel.  Sure hope you're able to recover at least part of that.

I'll be there, and am rooming iwth ProfStokes.  Hope to catch some of you.  Will be putting my handle on my con badge (I HATE pictures of myself). You can recognize me by two things: I walk with one of those crutches with the arm cuff on it, and tend to live in fannish t shirts and jeans.

Some advice from a NYer :

1) Those not sure how to get to the Fest from Manhattan -- I've mentioned in other topics a bus from Port Authoirty (and posted links to the website).  It will take you right to the airport where you can get hotel shuttle,  See if that works for your location.

2) Those going to Lyndhurst should plan their timing carefully for returning to the hotel.  The GW and other Hudson River crossings get crowded and stay crowded on Friday afternoons in the summer, as people run off to the Jersey shore beaches for the weekend.

I would like to make a request in favor of those of us who prefer a quieter, less chaotic Fest experience and ask that fellow Fest goers please try not to do loud partying in the wee hours in their hotel guest rooms--as I am sure we want everyone to have the most enjoyable time this weekend they can have--thanks in advance for your thoughtfulness.
