Title: My name is Victoria Winters....
Post by: kuanyin on July 11, 2002, 09:29:19 AM
I stopped by Best Buy tonight and got the DVDs. Happily, mine work fine. I did have some sparklies in the middle of the last disc for a few moments that I'm not sure if are from the original source or my specific disc.

To tell you the truth, I was not overly excited about this period of DS. I would have preferred 1795. But, having watched part of it, I am more thrilled than I expected to be. Woohoo, Mitch Ryan, Robert Gerringer, AND Dennis Patrick! (Will the REAL Burke Devlin and Dr. Woodard PLEASE stand up?)

I am SO looking forward to getting them all! I can't wait to see the color episodes on DVD! The black and white look great. I suspect that I may be a DVD shopping whore, do they have support groups for that????

I don't know, but if you find one, let me know--my husband can join it with you!  I made the mistake of buying him a DVD player, and now he's buying DVD's like we're rich--which we're not!

And if there's a support group for those who love DVD whores, let me know and I'll join that!

Love, Robin

I get the sparklies too.  They're from the original source.

Buying DVDs is VERY addictive when you first get a player. I bought more than a 100 the first year I had mine (I blame the fact that the features are just light years beyond what VHS has to offer, and the ease and savings of buying them over the Internet!) so I can definitely relate to your husband's buying spree, Robin. ;) But that was just over three years ago. In time you get to be a little more discriminating, which is why I've only bought 10 so far this year, though 3 were multiple disk sets (DS Collection 1 - 4 disks, Buffy Season 1 - 3 disks, and Buffy Season 2 - 6 disks). I guess that might mean I've really bought 20. ;D

Hee hee, I just got back from perusing a DVD section and held myself to buying only 1... however, it's the complete Prisoner series, so thanks to you I have to face up to the fact that I really bought 10. :o

Midnite......

Didn't you tell me you were going to move "Daughters of Darkness" to the top of your DVD list?  [lghy]   ;)

But in Midnite's defense, that's a DVD that's hard to come across in stores. I got mine as one of my choices when I joined the Columbia House DVD club back in '99 (which I don't advise anyone else doing because you actually end up paying more for DVDs in the long run than you do online - even if you hang around long enough to take advantage of their so-called "bonus" and "sale" prices).

I had no idea it was hard to come by.
I have a nephew-in-law who used to work for a store that specialised in laser-discs and then DVDs.

I e-mailed him in Manhattan at 9am with my 'unusual' request   ("Aunt Rainey, did you say a LESBIAN/VAMPIRE flick   :o  ??!!) and the courier was at my house by noon with the...object....in his hand.  [lghy]

I'll have to remember to thank him again!!

Hee hee!!  As MB said, I've never come across it, though I have it on VHS which unfortunately is lacking the commentary that I've heard so much about.  ;)  But at least the video can be paused...  Oops, was that my out loud voice? :D

I bet we all pause it at the same spots, too!  ;D
Connie was nice enough to do some screen grabs of a few choice scenes so if anyone would like to see them, you'd have to email me privately---no way could they be seen here!

Well, you could always post them like this:

But I suppose that would defeat the point, wouldn't it? [wink2]

That black dot gets around about as much as IMA Fly! Always showing up in all the right places.

I see that I'm not the only one that has this wonderful JK collection.  This movie is what I pop in the VCR when Sci-Fi is having one of their marathons.  ;D

Do you live alone, Carol?....or do you have a really sturdy lock on the door of the TV room?  :o

I have to wait till the Husband's at work, the Kid's at school, the Dog is under the bed, and the phone's off the hook!!...... before I can safely put that DVD on in MY house!!!!!

And raspberries to MB for teasing us with that censored photo!!  :P

LOL! Do I live alone? Sometimes I wish!

Husband of 27 years hates DS; so does 20 yo daughter. While they are busy doing other things, I watch all the DS I want. When I've had DOD on, I've stopped the tape and go back to watching cable TV until I'm alone again with JK.

Wish I could show you a pix that Connie did for my birthday using DOD but I don't know how to insert pix to posts.

Caught off guard in some hotel lobby - Karlen and Carol (whose husband claims she spends all her time online "chatting with Barnabas".  ROFL - I love that.

I just love Daughters of Darkness.  Since I don't own a DVD player, I content myself with the Anchor Bay video, which has a beautiful quality to it. It's been several years since I last watched it, but I have wonderful memories of it. So pleased they restored it from video release.

The Karlen audio track does sound like a hoot!  He must get a kick out of watching it now, remembering all the good times of yesteryear.

From some of the stories I've heard, his audio track of NoDS would certainly make "interesting" listening!

It's too bad that one of Johnny's most photogenic features went sight unseen in NoDS.  Thankfully, we can enjoy it in all its replete splendor in Daughters of Darkness. What a sensual, gorgeous hunk o' celluloid.

Steve, do you mean that NoDS is available on DVD and he does an audio commentary on it?!....or that he's told some outrageous stories about making NoDS and you'd love to hear them on a DVD audio commentary?

If it's the former, I have to e-mail the nephew-in-law in a hurry!!!  :D

Dear Aunt Rainey,  (sorry, I'm evil, but I LOVE that name),

Apologies for the false alarm.  I was just fantasizing that Johnny K's audio track for the NoDS DVD WOULD BE a hoot to hear.  But NoDS hasn't been issued on DVD yet, and I hope that doesn't happen for some time, given that a DVD release is one of the few hopes remaining to see Darren's restoration project get off the ground.

I have heard some funny stories about the shenanigans that ensued during the making of NoDS, but board regs forbid my posting them here.  You're welcome to IM me if you want to know what I've heard.

Have fun!  Steve

Those blasted black dots ruin EVERYTHING!

I have the videotape of DOD and while I consider it a distinctly weird movie, I will confess to pausing it at, um, certain places.

But I'm not saying which ones!

Love, Robin

I confess my need for a DVD addicts support group. What do you do? Help me? OH NO, you go and BRING UP ANOTHER FRIGGIN' DVD! I think I took a wrong turn some where.  >:(

However, I DID get a nice price on "Daughters of Darkness" at half.ebay.com! ;D Amazon didn't have it. I had just cancelled my Columbia account, so don't know if they would have or not.

Y'all are SO not a good influence!  :-*
