In discussing this documentary filmmaker's background, we learn that his inspiration to write and make movies traces back to Dark Shadows, since that's where his interest in horror and scifi movies began (page 3):

This is thrilling. In a way, I think we'll never really know just how influential the original series was to such creative talents. The fact that it still holds us in its thrall all these many years later is a testament to this.
