This fellow who collects antique photos of Halloweens past is posting one per day for the month of October:

Many of them are nicely atmospheric simply by virtue of being B&W or sepia-toned, but some are deliciously creepy.  Represented, among other traditional holiday costumes, mostly home-made but also a few early commercially-produced, are pumpkins, witches, ghosts, and even Felix the cat.

great!   loved the one with the clothes line!     

it shows how no one needed money and expensive "costumes" to show off in!
